Service Bulletin FIX USB playback and SMS Bluetooth! NB1/TOMTOM Only (2012-2015)

Wait, what? Unless I'm understanding this wrong, it would seem the "resume" issue still isn't fixed if it just finishes the last song being played (good) but then the next track is the last track on the device (bad)?

Well, the resuming of the track that I shut the car off with will start up again. So, for example, since I just walked in the door from work, the last track that was playing was "Survival" by Muse. When I go back to my car and leave in about 30 minutes, it will continue that track. All 45 seconds or so left. If I don't touch any buttons, the very next track it will play will be the last track alphabetically, which in this case would be "9-5er's Anthem" by Aesop Rock. So, to your question, that's exactly what it's doing.

On another note, I tried hitting "Repeat" on the resuming track and it still went to "9-5er's Anthem" when the resumed track finished.

My appointment is scheduled for Thursday. They said to give them about 45 minutes to install. Nice not having to go in for the diagnostic first.

So, I got the module installed on Friday. Here is what I am experiencing since the install so far:
My device is a 5th Gen iPod Nano 16GB.

- After shutting off the car and returning, the last song does start, showing track 1/1. No track information is displayed for the entirety of the track.
- All buttons are accessible was the track is playing (which is different than some others are experiencing)
- If I let the track play out, the very next track is 1637/1637, the last track alphabetically (which with the new module, track names starting with numbers are last instead of first like they were before the update). If, however, I hit Shuffle, the current track displays 1637/1637 along with the information from the last track alphabetically, even when that isn't the track that is playing.
- I'm starting to notice the new module has repeating shuffle patterns (with the old module, 8 out of every 10 shuffles would be in the same order)
- The unit cuts off the last 2 seconds of a track (still).

- I also have a iPod Classic 80GB. When I connect that, it will take over 10 minutes for it to load. I'm not sure exactly how long, as I reached my destination before it finished.

I think some of these issues might be player related. My song list has a few versions of the same song but by various artists ("Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed and a cover by Edie Brickell off the top of my head). I had an older ipod nano (no bluetooth) that would shuffle through the song list in an apparent random order. I upgraded to a nano with BT and while it appears to shuffle randomly, when it lands on a song for which I have multiple versions, it will play all the versions back to back, which the earlier model did not do. (Note: I am not denying that the CX-5 USB is scotched, but offering this tale as a possible explanation why robear00's replaced module may be acting "flaky.")

Yep, Ive been told the same by my dealership. Apparently, this fix has not been acknowledged yet by most dealers here. Someone has to wake up Mazda Canada

One thing to keep in mind. The dealership service center, although affiliated with Mazda, are really independent. The service center wants to get money for any work performed on a car. If they are at all unsure about warranty work they will not want to do it. For the main reason is that it cost them money to perform that work, they want to get paid. They do not want to charge Mazda for warranty work and get a charge back. Once you realize the service center wants money only and some service reps are assholes, I would leave this decision out of my algorithm to determine if I will buy a car again. If I do not like the service I will go to a different service center than where I bought the car. If you live in a rural area and this is not feasible, a call to Mazda Bluetooth hotline and a case number, will make things go smoother at the service center.

Good luck.

I had the same issue with a dealer in the Vancouver area - runaround from the desk guy, one of those slick-chatting CSR types. Mazda Canada (through Mazda Handsfree) were much better, immediately acknowledging the problem and issuing a case number right away. THey said that if the dealer was reluctant to assist, I should call Mazda Canada and report the problem. After a stern email to the service manager outlining the problem, the solution, and Mazda's position on the matter, the part is now on order.

Interesting. My iPod Nano does not have BT. I too have songs with the same title, like "Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads and a cover by Walk the Moon. Mine has never played them back to back though. However, things get real interesting with my iPod Classic, which I'm going to put as a separate post in this thread.

Ok, tested my iPod Classic 80GB this evening. iPod is from 2007 (which may lend to a potential software issue) and has a total of 10,273 tracks (9,896 are songs, but the dash unit loves to count podcasts on the iPod Nano, so I'm assuming it will do the same with the Classic). I apologize if this post gets a little long, but I figure all info is better than Cliffs Notes.

Instead of it taking 15+ minutes to connect, the iPod Classic only took 2 1/2 minutes. I'm just going to assume that the very first connection with a Classic takes the longest. When it connects, this is where things change. The Nano, upon its very first connection after the update, would play the first song alphabetically by song title, in this case is "A.I.E" by Soil & Pimp Sessions. In the Classic's case, it started by playing the first song alphabetically by artist AND by album, which was "Phony Rappers" from A Tribe Called Quest. Skipping through the tracks, it played the entire Beats, Rhymes, & Life album in track order, then went to the Midnight Maruaders album in track order. Note that BOTH iPods have the same albums from the tracks I mentioned. So in theory, the Classic should have started with the same song as the Nano.

As the Classic was still indexing, it continued the song, but kept coming by with static white noise in the middle of the track. I'm assuming it can't play and index such a huge list of songs at the same time. When the song came back, it looked like the indexing was done, but only showed x/5265 instead of x/10273 as I expected. Hitting Shuffle brought about more white noise for a good 30-45 seconds. When it was done re-indexing, I hit Song List and started the first song on the list. It played ok for the first minute, and then the white noise came back. It went away for good after a minute.

Ok, so last part (I think). On the way home, the Classic was playing "Nice to Know You" by Incubus from the Morning View album. I shut off the car to get gas, then started the car. The song resumed after almost 3 minutes of loading. I pressed no buttons and let it play out. The very next song? "Circles"....by Incubus.....from the Morning View album. Skipping songs again, it went on start playing songs off of Incubus's S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album.

So that's where iPods are at in my neighborhood.

Had the TSB done on my 2015 Touring, and the USB works fine, but my Ipod Classic with 10,700 songs on it just reads, & reads for about 5 minutes, then says Ipod error. Oh well, we're halfway there..

Cheers, Paul

I’m sorry but I have to ask, how do you people end up with over 10k songs??

I have 33,469 songs according to iTunes across just about every genre except gospel and country. I host trivia in bars, so the collection has grown as people have requested songs. Though, before I started hosting, I already had almost 30,000 on my own anyway.

I’m sorry but I have to ask, how do you people end up with over 10k songs??

In college people would share their iTunes playlists and since we were all connected to the same network you could see and connect to all of their libraries. There was a program called ourTunes which would allow you to download those libraries to your computer. I would just download any library I could, which explains how I ended up with 30 Avril Lavigne songs... (rolleyes)

I have about 19K songs, all acquired legally. About 15K are from the 1200+ CDs I've purchased over the past 30 years. The rest are from a service I subscribed to many years ago that allowed unlimited downloads. According to Winamp it would take about 54 days and 4 hours to listen to them all. That averages out to about 4 minutes per song which sounds about right.

Someone has to wake up Mazda Canada

It appears Mazda Canada is possibly waking up just got an email returned after a long talk with a CSR

Here is the information I got from our technical Department:
There is a Canadian TSB (bulletin) under translation and legal review and should be available to dealers in a couple of days. Updated Bluetooth modules will be sent out to dealers to address customer issue.
So I would recommend you keep in touch with your Dealership to find out when this will available to them and to you

Cordially,

I hope they get this right.

I've been calling my dealership every week for the past month asking about this update. I keep being told that they contacted Mazda Hands Free (as I did and even got a reference#) but Hands Free keeps telling them that the fix isn't rolled out completely within Canada yet. Apparently Mazda Hands Free is telling my dealership, don't call us...we'll call you. I've explained to my dealership that folks on this board from Montreal had this fix installed a few weeks ago....but the answer is still the same. This is bulls***!!

Bon

Fingers crossed here.... they are replacing my module right now.

EDIT: Looks like it is done.

Ive tried 3 dealers in the GTA so far and none are wiling to do it. I hope Mazda Canada will have this issue resolved soon.

Last song resume works and BT is now acceptable. No dice with my iPhone 5S (8.3) & text messages. Hardware shows up as version 7.0.0 in diagnostics. The same download message shows up but no messages. I even turned off iMessage and am running as basic SMS as I can. Show notifications is also turned on.

[iPhone 5S] If I have Pandora app active on iPhone it seems to start playing in like 15-20 seconds after power on. If it isn't launched you do go through the "allow" battle screens but ultimately it will work after a minute or two.

Got mine replaced today and it STILL starts from the first song and takes 5 mins to load. Is there an extra step I'm missing or did they just put the old one back in??

Hold power and seek with Radio On then enter code 38

This should show you the firmware version. 7.0 is the new one. Just turn radio off to get out of mode
