Seatbelts dont have tension ???

Hey guys I just got a 91 Protege DX for my daily driver - winter car. It has those automatic seat belt thingys on it but I noticed that there is no tension on the belt when I pull them. You know how normally when you pull the belt quickly it grabs and stops the belt well this does nothing. So is this normal? or should it grab like most of them?

that's how it's supposed to be. When you step on the brake, it should catch.

If it does not seem to work you will need to fix them quick. You can buy new units and install them pretty easily, however, most car makers will replace seat belts for free or nearly free if they are broken. you may want to go to a Mazda dealer.
