Screeching noise from front on CX-5

2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring
Bought a 2014 CX-5 Grand Touring (19" wheels) a couple of months ago and it's always made a screeching (metal brushing against metal kind of) sound coming from the front end, especially at low speeds, sometimes when braking, but not necessarily. It's really prominent when backing up. The dealer said it would go away after using it for a while (they thought it could be some surface rust from waiting at the dock) but it hasn't after 1200 miles. I have to take it in to replace a defective windshield too, but that will take a few weeks until they get the part. Was wondering if anybody experienced the same problem.

I haven't heard anything like that from mine. I've had it since May 13 and put 2500km or so on it. I'd have the dealer take a look at the car to verify that it is harmless brake noise. It seems like it should have stopped by now if that was the case.

My wife (the car is actually hers, I drive a 328i coupe) took it in to the dealer today. They verified the noise, it was loud and clear. They'll keep the car during the week to inspect it and give her a loaner in the meantime.

Could be a bent disk brake dust shield. Why would a dealer tell a custom that a metal on metal screching noise go away with time? The answers should be funny but, sad at the same time as this doesn't instill faith in that dealer to me. Ed

Makes sense. Their first explanation was that there could be some superficial rust (on the brakes?) after having been parked at the dock after shipment for who knows how long.

We took the car to a different dealer and the first "fix" didn't work, a brake adjustment and lubrication of one of the rear wheels. Took it back yesterday and now it looks like the problem is gone, after they disassembled and reassembled the hardware for all four wheels. They didn't find any defective piece though, and the dust shields were straight. Now we just have to wait for the windshield... Service guy said a woman with a Mazda 6 is waiting for both, front and rear! She gets dizzy every time she looks out through either one of them.

Happens all the time on my 3, when an approx 3/4" rock gets thrown in the wheel well and bounces around. It gets stuck between the brake's heat shield and the disc, making the screeching sound.

Happens most of the time in my driveway when I back up, as the gravel sticks on the tires at low speeds and may fall there...

When it happens, I stop, then I just "thrummm" the heat shield and the rock falls down. Just thought I'd share!

It looks like it was something like that (something stuck between the shield and disc) because the front end has been noise-free for over a month and a half now. We just got notified by the dealer that the new windshield came in, so that took over two months.
