Here's one last thing to think about: your 4 point belt was engineered for all of the above, but in combination with a roll cage.

Whatever you choose to do, I hope you never have to rely on your belts for anything other than keeping you planted in the corners. I'd hate to see the outcome.

Mike I know what you were getting at. All the 4 point does for me is keep me in the seat better so that I don't get thrown around the seat during the lapping days.

Besides, this 4 point has a lapbelt portion that I can just hookup that. So in essence it's like a CG but better.
 
The Schroth harnesses are street legal and have been tested in cars without roll cages. I would also like to see any data that shows that a 4 point harness with no cage can kill you in a rollover accident. Any impact that will crush the roof down far enough to hit my head when I'm strapped in will have to be a very high G impact. Without the harness I would be thrown around the car like a ragdoll at that high of an impact and probably still die.

I agree that the CG lock is a cheap alternative to a harness, but I won't be afraid of running my schroth until I see some tests that prove me wrong.
 
FWIW, I'm with Jackson, Mallard and the others who run Schroth Ralleye 3s on the track regularly without a roll bar/cage. Every club where I run (the Northeast) permits it except for one and they require 5pt harnesses (but not a rollbar - go figure).

There are risks to everything we do and it's up to each person to choose which ones they're comfortable with and which ones they are not. No one should be called names or described with negative adjectives or whatever for making these choices.

By the same token, everyone here is welcome to express their opinion (like I wouldn't run that because . . .). That's your choice--just don't call people names because they have a different opinion or have made different choices regarding risks.

It's all personal, like my choice to buy a car without ABS or side airbags - probably more dangerous to me than the Rallye 4s on the track. It's all what you prefer and that's just fine.

Actually, many manucaturers are testing 4 point seat belts as standard equiptment. A 3-point belt wouldn't protect anywhere near was well as a 4 point in a rollover. Not only do the lap belts keep you down in the seat, the shoulder belts stop lateral body movements, and you don't have to worry about any slack in a belt.
 
That's true. I suppose no matter how tight you tighten the belts, there'd be enough force in a collapsing roof to overcome that belt resistance, so you would still get pushed down (submarine) if the roof caved-in, thereby pushing you out of the way.

I say we have a GB on Autopower roll bars and mitigate everyone's fears. :) Heh? Heh? Anyone? Anyone? :)
 
i think a good racing seat will help you from shifting too much when lapping... even with the stock belts.

it helps but you really need both. the racing seat and the belts work together

I would guess so. I was very happy with the harness and stock seats though. My left knee feels much better now that I don't have to brace myself on the dead pedal.
