Scared of MSP!

Ok, so I have been a Mazda fan since 1990 when my parents bought a 626 (most reliable car ever!) The MSP was one of my dream cars, (realisticaly) its different, handles well, looks amazing. But all I see on this damn site is people complaining about the car. Poor quality, blown engines after a few thousand miles ect. Its kinda pissing me off. Does anyone actually have a nice thing to say about the car? Anyone have a reliable MSP? I just spent alot of money on this, it was my first new car purchase, now im scard to drive it everyday cause im scared that its going to break down. I shouldnt have to think like that. My Ford Probe had 180,000 miles on it, and I sprayed a 75 shot in it every weekend. I never had any problems in the six years I had it. Sure my Speed clunks in the rear, and slight hessitation, but no car is perfect. I dont know. Just curious what other peoples comments are. Oh, my friend bought a 2004 RSX Type S and the engine blew with 7,500 miles on it. I dont think its just Mazda

thanks for reading,
Ian

some people drive it crazy, but it does have issues. i would say on a whole most people are satisfied.

BTW, did your friend with the RSX change the oil?

that wouldnt do it...i changed my oil in my sunfire like twice in 36k miles. newer cars have a lot more tolerance than people think...my wife was irresponsible as well and only changed oil once every 7500 miles in her 4runner which had 80k miles on it.

I've had a few issues. I'm lightly modded and at stock boost. (intake, hardpipes with BOV, and I had a downpipe for a while but sold that)

Many people who have blown their engines have done so while going WOT in 5th gear up a hill with 5 people and 2 bodies in the trunk. Well, not that bad, but some people don't realize the amount of stress you put on a motor when boosting in the higher gears.

but if he raced it and left the factory new car oil in there, wouldn't that do it?

im not an expert im just going with what i have seen. my bad ass base model sunfire i left the factory oil in for the first like 10k miles. i certainly didnt race it, well except lightly modded skateboards and old women crossing the street, but i beat the s*** out of it.

Go out and enjoy your car....the problems people have had are mostly minor and fixable, the ones who blew the engine were always playing around with the boost thus had it coming to them. My car has 23,000 miles on it and has been a champ.

My car is running strong, and I love every clunking second of it. If your car hesitates, take it to the dealer, and there is an ECU flash that fixes that. Oh, and I've boosted going up a hill in 5th with 5 people in my car(including me) and knapsacks in the back, and I had no problem at all. It's just like every line of cars, theres a few lemons, you just hear more about it here, cause everyone reports every little problem. all and all, I think most everyone is satisfied with their car, and will continue to be. I mean, I beat the living piss outta this car, and it's holding stronger than ever, you just gotta use your head a bit, I mean, my boosting in 5th uphill with tons of weight was stupid, but it shows you, it can handle it, just not all the time, as the stress will kill the engine. Oh, and if you are stock, don't worry about blwoing a motor, if you do, you got a warrenty that will cover that. Trust me, this car is realiable, and can take a beating if you choose to dish one out, but common sense, and somewhat safe driving must play a role, and the longevity of this car will endure.

I've got 41K and have had very minimal problems. I have turned up the boost, but done so cautiously. I have also freed up the exhaust which gave a huge increase in power. Go out and enjoy the car, it's a blast to drive, and I've found the car to be extremely reliable. I am also in TX, so I don't really have the cold weather problem.

oh yeah, the clunk can be fixed, but it's temporary, and you will need to keep taking it in...everything is covered under warrenty, the flash, the bushings(stops clunking for a while) all of that..so long as you stay stock. If you mod with permissions from the dealer, it will stay warrentied also. But most dealers don't allow that, but i mean, if you get an intake, they are still goinna cover your bushings, or if you get a new stereo deck, they will still fix ur engine type deal

Cold weather hasn't affected me, I just go easy on the car, as one should when its cold, cause of ice and snow and all that fun stuff you're missing out on...lol

Please realize that this information is NOT true. I'm completly stock, my engine is completly blown, and my warrently is completely voided.

i WAS happy with the car. In fact I loved it. I was in the same position as you, it was my first "new" car purchase that I had spend close to two years saving up for. I spent months on this board just reading up on things. This car would be amazing with a couple of things that I thought could wait, but it turns out really should be a requirement.

(1) A Built Engine
(2) Delsing Rear Clunk Fix Bracket (Maybe the larger bar as well)
(3) Aftermarket Head Unit

If those things were fixed I would be amazed with this car. But unfortunatly I didnt forsee what happened with my car, and didnt have time to save up to do all of the work it now requires. And yes I realize that all i do on here is b**** now, but its my only way of getting out my frustration.
