2007 Mazdaspeed3 SSM,
I just installed a ScanGauge II in the MS3. It is awesome. www.scangauge.com for all the details, it is upgradeable (adding gauges like HP manifold Press. Tranny temp ETC...) I hear a lot about the dashhawk, but at a cheaper price and with all the options this has, it may be a great alternative.

The scangauge does not have all the options of the dashhawk. Both work for trip computer functions and some engine parameters. But dashhawk can also do performance measurements, such as 0-60, and 1/4 mile time.

Any pictures or videos of your scangauge in action?

I'll get some photos and vids.

- Now I wasnt trying to bad mouth the dash hawk, Im sure its an excellent machine. I was just saying that Scangauge (for the $$) is not a bad deal. scangauge adds new parameter codes to the website everyday, its just a matter of putting the code into the machine and unlocking it from the vehicle. the way I see it, neither of the companies are paying me to advertise for them so I call it based on my own experience. Im just not willing to pay double the price to see 0-60/- 1/4 mile times I can pay 10 bucks for at my local track, but to each his/her own.

What about oil temp? Isn't that important for letting your engine warm up before stepping on it?

Not necessarily, -its your water (coolant) temp you want to watch. You do however want to keep an eye on your oil pressure, you dont want to jump in your car start it up and just go, because your oil pressure needs a minute to get up. your coolant should be between 140 and 180 DEG. before you do any serious driving. Of course this subject is sorley debatable, but we can also get into the types of oils and different grades for the different seasons as well as Turbo/NA applications. (hand) << you'll hear a lot of opinion, see what works best for you. then get out there and...(wrc)

that would be the best way to go but i dont have a laptop, i have a pocket pc phone but i still feel that dashhawk is best for dashboard instant readings unless i get a laptop and leave it on my dash which i wouldnt want to do. The dash hawk would just act like a gauge so one could monitor temps and all the things it does while i drive, conveniently. not going to get one anytime soon but its a option i still consider
