The Satellite radio from factory is a lot of money. i was wondering if anyone has installed one not from factory and if it still works with the controls on the dash... also about how much did it cost for install or if you did it yourself was it difficult?

Just get the Sirius plug and play. I put it in my cup holder and its in arms reach perfectly and looks great.
You wont want the stock display since you can only scroll and see 1 channel listing at a time. On the plug and play you can see 6 channels at a time.

ahh man its going to cost you only $130 plus $15 for a noise filter.
You simply open your arm rest and plug in the cig adapater for power and the headphone aux jack for sound and the filter plugs into the line to filter out engine buzz and noise. If you havent noticed if you use an ipod and charge it at the same time it will buzz over the speakers so this ground loop filter will stop that.
Will take you 15min to run the antenna but no matter what type you have to do that then another 5secs to plug everything in and your done.'
I used velcro on the bottom of the suction cup that is meant to go on the window and stuck it in the cup holder angled in the upright position and tilted back so I can see it perfectly. I use my right hand to adjust while resting my arm on the arm rest and its great.

yeah it looks good... im really thinking about sat radio my work in the morn sux with the regular radio .. and all the same songs..whitey4311 said:

Nah I havent found the noise filter local because they are typically for RCA so you would have to spend more money to adapt it and get it to a 3.5mm jack.

Looks OEM to me. I took a dremel and notched under the rubber seal that outlines the hatch so that the wire would fit into it perfectly then pressed the seal back down and ran the wire through the floor boards/carpet/ect then up the side of the arm rest and inside of it. You will just have to be creative on how you run the wire but you cant see mine at all from the inside either.
The Antenna is a magnet and the wire protector deal is 3m tape.

Well you can usually find the OEM sirius kit on ebay for about $150. several forum members have done that and been perfectly happy. You can also do what whitey said and just get a plug and play unit. There are lots of models to pick from with different features. Also if you're going with an aftermarket unit then you could go with XM if you like their programs better. If you have a 2007 model then you'll already have the audio input and power plug in the armrest, and you can easily run the wires wherever you'd like to.
Another option is the new AXXESS ipod interface comes with an optional XM version. Basically it plugs into the bottom of the HU (where the TAPE/MD would plug in) and has a XM receiver hooked into it. That would display on the HU LCD, but like others have said that display is limited in how much it displays. On the other hand some people don't like little sat. units inside their car and want it all integrated.
Most aftermarket sat. units have built in FM transmitters. Some will only transmit on four channels or so, and some will do the whole spectrum so you have more choice in what channel you pick depending on your area. A friend of mine uses that in her 3 with a sirius starmate and it sounds fine.

Why would you do this if you have the AUX input right in your arm rest? Its cake to do and its all right there for you. Give it a go you will love it.
Its like having a DJ all day in your car and you dont know whats playing next. I found myself skipping song after song on my Ipod despite having 2k songs on it. After a while you have heard them all and it gets old trying to figure out what to buy next. This way old stuff that still rocks gets played and you sort of say, "oh I remember that song". Its pretty sweet man I love mine.
The one in my pic is the top seller right now and has a rebate that I sent in for $30 so total price is the $120. I got it beacause it looked cooler but there is a cheaper one for $67 that does all the same exact things but is not stylish looking.

You're right that hardwired sounds better than a transmitter, though I was very surprised by the quality of sound coming from my friend's unit. She has a 2006 and is leasing so she didn't want to do any input as long as she was enjoying the sound via the transmitter.whitey4311

I went for the factory Sirius unit for my MS GT and I'm very happy. I had a Sirius GTR plug and play unit in my Pro 5. If you like to scrolling through the channels and looking at text the factory unit isn't that good, but you have 6 (presets) X 3 (SAT menus) = 18 total presets channels. The factory Sirius is very clean and worth the cost.
With the Sirius factory unit I have a tons of music options:
6 CDs
100s of Sirius channels - BTLS rocks!!!
FM/AM radio
Ipod 2G Nano - FM transmitter
I'm impressed with the Bose radio in the GT.

I am sure its nice but not worth the extra $400 plus $150 for the splitter so you can keep your AUX input.
I went the easy route and for $120 you just cant beat it plus there are many more options it has then the OEM. I have like TIVO where I can stop and rewind up to 45min playback music or pause it and replay when I want. Pretty sweet when a cool song comes on to listen to it again like that.

I hate that you have to scroll to see everything, and I don't know if I'll be able to swallow the 12 bucks a month after my free subscription runs out. This car is double what I pay on my Ranger and I've had to sacrifice a lot of disposable income for it!

I still wouldnt go that route for all the issues mentioned.
1. I can puase and play back up to 45min
2. I can view more then one channel at a time
3. I dont have to scroll to see what the song title is
4. Install is much easier
5. More presets and options ect
