Oh, I agree, humor is essential...but proposals should be romantic...my hubby really did an awesome job when he proposed to me...

Decided to propose on Saturday since it was our 4.5 year anniversary, and word got out I was proposing to Ev on her b-day (golden) on the 25th of this month. I was going to do it in Chicago, but my plans were thwarted my Ev's nosey neighbor. Not sure how she found out but I decided to do it earlier. And at this point she told evs mom, and I had no idea if ev knew or not.
Saturday night I decide to ask her during a fireplace fire and a movie. She had bought me chocolate dipped strawberries from San diego and I received them around noon. That was my v-day's present from her. So i said this falls into place quite well because I can then give hers early (which I wanted to do all along).
Saturday around 7 she gets out of the shower and I ask her are the vents of the fireplace closed. She said yeah, both are closed. Went downstairs, thought I opened both up, since she said both were closed. One is easy to see the other is behind the firebrick. I hate that we have 2 but anyways, set the logs in, turn the gas on, 10 minutes later I come back and the house is filled with smoke. I said damn! The small vent must have been opened all along, so I rush to the fireplace, tried to open it, it didn't budge... at all. Ev's rushes in with a cup of water, turns the fire off, smoke detectors going off like crazy, I opened the doors, cold air rushes in throughout, and I said this cannot be a good start.
At this point the house is smokey, cold, and I told Ev forget it, leave it be lets sit down and still enjoy the night. So she was bummed because she feels bad about telling me it was closed, I told her I had a v-day gift for her. She opened it up, and it was a recordable heart from Hallmark. I left her a message and at the end of it, I told her I had to ask her a very special question. At this point she began to cry, I grabbed another box from the back of some photos, and told her how much I loved her and wanted to be with her. Then i took the ring out and asked her if she would marry me. She said yes and then proceeded to ask me for kleenex because she couldn't see the ring because of her tears.
After that, no movie, she called just about everyone on her contact list, lol.
It was awesome. I heart her.
