Sad Day

The best advice to give on this car is keep the boost down and no WOT in turns.

I have an AWR deep sump pan on the way as should everyone else who wants to romp the gas in ANY turn!

Just got back from the shop. The mechanic thinks something (like my earlier guess of a rock) flew up and hit the engine, which knocked a rod loose that then shot through. This sounds extremely unlikely to me, but the bottom line is that there's a nice round hole in the engine block. The dealership wants to replace the whole engine, i.e. headers, intake/exhaust mani, etc. If the block is the only thing damaged, can't they just order a new block and use the other parts from the old engine?

Is this the dealer mechanic that thinks something flew up and hit the engine and "knocked a rod loose"? WOW!

They are completely trying to rip you off trying to replace everything!

they sound retarded as hell just do like everyone has said buy a new block from protegegarage and find a local performance or motor shop, and have some one who realizes that a rock can't knock engine internals loose.

Yeah dealer mechanic. Sounded pretty ridiculous when he said it, but I wasn't going to put up a fight in his garage. Just had them take it off the lift and *roll* it into a parking spot.

How long do you guys think it would take a shop to install the new engine? Trying to get a feel for how much the "labor" costs are going to be.

around a week, maybe less, i'm part of the zoom zoom boom club so don't worrie, good luck with everything

a rock puntured your block? I would of asked the guy if i could have some too!! So i take it they drained the oil and didnt see any kind of material in it? did they try turning the block over to see if it turns? Doesnt sound right mang....my opinion.

Ive had a shop recently install a used engine for $2000.
engine was $700, rack and pinion was $300, rest was labor.

It was a used regular protege engine, with 6 months warranty.

You can swap out the motor in a day. Just be sure to tag all the hoses etc so you don't forget where they go.

Can't belive that dealer! Rock hitting block breaks internal components LOL! Rod broke and poked through block more like it.

They couldn't drain the oil because it all drained out when the engine blew :( Think I'm just going to get one of the used engines off of protege garage and get it installed. I'm on vacation for a week, so I'll be able to get back to it once I get back home
