RX8 Wheels + Star Specs Rubbing?

I finally got my 235/40 Z1 Star Specs on my RX-8 wheels on my MS3 the other day and yesterday I noticed a little bit of rubber was peeling off of the edge. It looked like the edge of the fender got bent out a little bit and is cutting the tire when I hit a big bump, I've been avoiding big bumps and taking them slowly after I noticed this yesterday. I'm on stock springs. I uploaded photos of both my rear fenders.. They look exactly the same so I'm not sure if it was like this already before or not..

Do I need to roll my fenders just to have RX-8 wheels and 235/40 Star Specs? I haven't heard of anyone that needed to do this with these specs.. especially on stock springs.

AH, yes, that is an all too common sight. It's not a big deal man. Take the tires off, get a good hair dryer/heat gun, get them nice and warm and carefully flatten, just a bit, with a baseball bat. This is if you do not want to allocate the money on having it done professionally. Very little work will be required to cure your problem, if done slowly and carefully a baseball bat will do exactly what you need.

Yeah. It definitely doesn't seem like a big enough of deal to pay a professional to do it. It doesn't sound like a bad process though, I'm glad it's a common problem. I'm sure I can find a baseball bat somewhere and grab a heat gun from Walmart or somethin' and roll that piece back down..

I guess in the future I should just be more careful of large bumps so it doesn't snag and pull out like that again. Stupid northeast Ohio roads..

I tried this out but I'm not sure I'm doing it right because the car looks kinda funny. Am I supposed to be swinging the bat down against the side of the fender, or up against the inside of the fender?

Also, I was having trouble getting a good powerful swing when trying to hold the heat gun. So I had the wife hold it so I could use two hands and really give her hell. (cabpatch)

hoping this is a joke....

Do not use a baseball bat, this isn't a beater car where you spray paint damaged paint.

Rent a fender roller.

Do you know if Autozone or Home Depot or something like that has 'em for rent? I know those places have tools for rent, but the only places I've seen 'em for rent from just searching online are just online stores.. and you'd have to pay for shipping. I guess I could call..

You're better off finding a local individual that has purchased one and rents it out (perhaps try craigslist), otherwise renting one online will be your best bet and a far better choice than using a bat.

I'd like to know, as well. I tried to bend at the knees and crowd the plate, but I kept whiffing at the high stuff. hAlp!
