RX8 RIMS on Laser Blue P5!!!!

Fenders have not been rolled (yet).

Not sure what I'm doing with the Rotas. If someone is interested I might sell them. The tires are still in mint condition so I'd be looking to make back at least $700 for the combo (I paid $950). Otherwise I'll just keep them and use them for the winter.

they look too big, how's the ride? I heard sidewalls that thin make it very uncomfortable. Looks good though, I'd opt for something smaller.

....you have to do something about your tini exhaust pipe......least get a new one welded on!

yellow calipers would probably look the best. mp3architecht had them that way on his mp3 - maybe you could ask him for some pictures. I'm looking to do mine yellow, too. Of course then I'll want to do the strut bar yellow, valve cover yellow, everything yellow lol.

Red would look good as well, though I think yellow offsets the blue the nicest.

I agree, going yellow means...going all yellow (eventually) but I think it would look the best if it stays clean.

Someday I'll upgrade the exhaust...but I don't want anything louder than stock. I doubt I'd notice a 5hp gain from an aftermarket one...but I guarantee I'd notice the loudness.

The ride isn't bad. Yes it is stiff, but if I were in the market for a plush ride I would have bought a Buick.

Once again...another wheel manufacturer chiming in on how "a wheel bigger than the size your car came with will bend" post...Thanks for the warning there paco....oh yeah...:bs:

Get this thought out of your head...Any wheel "CAN" bend...but under "NORMAL" driving situations ,they will not. I have ran many a set of 18" and up wheels with never a problem....and Ive hit some killer 'holes...Lots of friends with 20's+ as well and they dont have a problem for the most part....and thats on bigger and heavier vehicles ...Of course....So get over it...its a myth.

hey man, take it easy. its not a myth, its logic. just because it hasnt happened to you or your friends doesnt mean its not true. in fact, i bent both rims on the passenger side of my rx-8 on a pothole. no matter what you think, the thinner a tire is, the less cushion it offers thus increasing your risk for bending a rim.

That looks awesome, the 18" size scares me though i dont know if i could do it. Id be afraid of the tires everytime i drive. Whats the average life of those tires?

Get a tip from Autozone? Mark's and Ryan's exhausts sound super-sweet, and not really loud.

Need a big brakes kit now too :)

I bet silver wouldn't look too bad. Blue would be a hard match though.
Hey zverg, remember the photos that you took when you helped me paint my calipers blue? (way back in the day) Do you have any of those left still? Because there were some photos of the calipers just looking silver.

I do have them somewhere. I'll see if I can remotely log in to my desktop computer, they'd be on there somewhere.

Here's what I found on my desktop:

I have pics of what my calipers look like silver on my laptop. The silver look is really growing on me, and it retains the stock-ish look (which is then completely voided by my wheels). It looks like I don't have any pictures of what it looked like after you put the wheels back on though.

Edit: pictures of silver calipers added.

You got a good point. Hey a stiffer ride = more responsive. For the way it looks it's deffinately worth it.

w00t, zverg, you my man!

I like how that silver looks, I may do so for the 8. I found that the blue that I used didn't quite match. Then again, I used cheapo paint from Autozone and not the G2 caliper paint stuff.

I used a Duplicolor brush-on caliper paint. 15 dollars or so, readily available in red, blue, yellow, and usually silver at Advance Auto Parts, and as far as I can tell as high quality as the G2 caliper paint. I first had mine done with G2 in red, and then touched it up with the Duplicolor red kit.

The only downside I see to the duplicolor kit is that it is a thinner paint than the G2, at least in silver. It took 3 or 4 coats to get the red basically covered, then a couple touchups in hard to reach areas.

I think silver is a great color because it retains a slightly stock-ish look. If I were to put the stock wheels on my car, anyone who doesn't drive a Protege5 themself would probably think my car was 100% stock, but still damn sexy.

I just wish there were Mazda 17s that looked as awesome as the RX-8 wheels. Driving in downtown Rochester and on the craptastic NY State Thruway doesn't agree with 35-series tires for me.

Logic stems from probability. My mom bent two rims on her camry after hitting a pothole...15"ers with 65 series tires for the record. So acting like 17" wheels are the savior and 18"s are the devil is not sound logic as it does not incorporate all of the factors that make up the probability of bending a rim.

The probability increases when you a) drive on roads that have potholes or roadside debris and b) you have less sidewall to protect the rim c) you don't pay attention to the road and d) you tailgate to the point where you cannot react fast enough to road conditions.

Given that I don't tailgate, I usually pay attention to the road, and I will only use these rims during seasons that offer the best road conditions...I think the probability of me bending a rim is pretty slim.

i bent my 18 slightly, not enough to cause an issue (it was on the inside) that's 4 seasons with the rubber bands on there for tires...am thinking that i'll probably throw the 17 mp3 rims on for the trip to tennessee though?
