as I said in a earlier thread I had my car serviced today and the dealer did the latest emissions recall which included reflash which I was told will increase the amount of oil injection, they found my ticking problem while working on replacing my spark plugs ,I will let you know if the car drives any better., I was told that rx8 owners that complained by phone to mazda about not getting advertised hp received some perks, either free maintenence, cash, or extended warrente

Were the complaints recent or back in '04 when they overstated the horsepower at 250hp?

That is good to hear about the new flash it has been the talk for a while. I have been premixing for some time and had already switched to 5w30 oil last year since it is good enough for the rest of the world...

It will take about 100 miles for the new flash to learn fuel settings again so until then baby the car so it doesn't retard the timing. ;)

please explain why . I was told the car likes to be driven, I shift up at8k ,how will that cause my engine to retard the timing I run only prem fuel

there's no knock sensor, there's nothing to retard

ummmmm........(ughdance)

The RX8 DOES have a knock sensor and will retard the ignition timining if it starts to detect knock. In fact, somtimes the RX8 ECU will retard ignition timing even if there is no knock detected. It is common for people to unbolt the knock sensor when using the RX8 on a dyno.

While the rotary doesnt have a valve train...it still advances/retards the ignition timing.

Under load as the RPM climbs the RX8 ecu will retard the ignition timing and increase the fuel to help prevent spark knock from happening. As the load is reduced the ECU advances the ignition timing and reduces the fuel.

The ECU always trys to advance the spark timing as much as possible and hold it just before the knock threshold.
