Autoblogs SEMA embedded journalist, Eric Bryant, just cant resist a good engine display. Heres one from GReddy Performance Products that should answer the biggest criticism of Mazdas nifty RX8 - not enough power and torque.

This Turbo kit for the RX8 rotary increases horsepower by more than 29 percent, to 261 hp, and bumps the torque figure from a limp-wristed 125 ft/lbs to a beefier 176 ft/lbs, while flattening the power curve to give more mid-range grunt. Like the sign says: Add boost, torque and thrills!

Its all good, and you can install the kit in a day (or so). More after the break.

Heres what you get when you open the box:
  • GReddy/Mitsubishi T618Z turbo
  • front mount intercooler
  • pre-programmed e-manage system, with pressure sensor, adapters and plug-in harness
  • cast-iron manifold and downpipe adapter
  • aluminum piping
  • Airinx air intake
  • a whole lot of hoses, hardware and brackets.
Get all the details from GReddy Performance, on the web at www.greddy.com

yeah it's been out for a while now, i think the e-manage is on the 3rd or 4th revision now or something

btw i think those power numbers are at-the-wheel numbers, fyi

That display is awesome.

I've sold a few of these kits at work.

I would consider buying it. But what is the price of that thing?
according to www.greddy.com

I guess that will be the last mod that I will do on the car once I get a lighter flywheel, springs, shocks and exhaust. (yippy)

If you want bigger HP #s combine that kit with the new piggyback controller that Mazsport.net has. Thay have a shop car making over 300WHP reliably.

anyone w/this greddy turbokit take there rx8 to the track? im thinkin about gettin an rx-8 and gettin the greddy turbo kit but i was just wondering what kind of 1/4 mile times it bangs out w/the kit?

I've seen some pretty pathetic numbers with these kits. They might have got the emanage thing figured out by now though.

first of all, dragracing this car you are gonna get WHEEL HOP...and lots of it, so plan to beef up the rear bushings and suspension.

After that, the diff and trany can hold the power the kit can put down, on the street that is, if you drag race often, you are gonna be breaking driveline parts, esp if you race on slicks.

That said, you can find the kit for around 3k. Add to that the X-Interceptor ECU (the emanage blows), along with a few other mods you can get the car to 330whp/260wtq at about 12psi. Ive seen maby a dozen cars making those numbers on 93 octane pump gas.

The weight of the car and driver would be about 3250 (with a 200lb driver) so its gonna be making the same power at the wheels, and weigh about the same as a vette, so with a good launch, you should make similar times. EDIT : doh, forgot your still only making like 2/3's the TQ the vette is, I would think LOW 13's would be possible, MABEY....MABEY VERY HIGH 12s. like 12.8/12.9...MABEY

the greddy turbo comes pretuned at 6psi.. im not sure if id wanna run 12psi on a rotary motor.. dont wanna take any chances w/the prices of rebuildin a rotary engine

Uhhh.....

What, do you think a piston motor costs less to rebulid than rotary to rebuild?(uhm)

Try again....

yeah it comes pretuned for 6spi on a rx8 with the emanage with stock maps...thats out of the box, the turbo is smaller and cant make power over about 7k rpm on the renesis, but even then, the max psi on the rx8 is over 12psi, as there are quite a few rx8s running 12-14psi and running good (no blowups) the only question left is life span of the motor at 12-14psi....I would say the motor should be good for about 80k miles, similar to the FD, at that point all it needs is a rebuild and its good for another 80k.

A rotary engine will last a long time if it's maintained and properly taken care of.

The problem on the FD's was more other components than the engine itself. Fan, IC, wiring, cat, vacuum lines, etc... were all factors to them not lasting long.

The 60k lifespan of a 13B is a bunch of BS. The 13B can last almost as long as any other piston motor out there.
