Rust never sleeps....

Ok, I have to fess up - I accidently got battery acid on my engine block. I tried to clean it with baking soda, then I went to Autozone and purchased some "battery acid cleaner". Well it cleaned some of the mess, but there is some rust on the block. Had a mechanic buff it out, and it was ok....for a week or two, and then the rust came back. I had the mechanic buff it out again, looked fine, and then......its back! The mechanic said it is just cosmetic, and nothing to worry about. Of course, I am now worrying. Will it eat away at the block and cause future damage (will it eat through the block??). And at the very least, I hate the way it looks, I try to keep my car mint! Is there any silver paint or clearcoat that is made for this type of damage, or anything else I can do/use to cleanup the surface rust? Thanks for any advice.
