Rust between brakes rotors and rims

hello all,
nice to see the forum is alive and kicking.

I see some rust between the rear brake rotors and where the inside of the rear rims meet. It is all around (about 1.5 inches in diameter thickness of the strip going around) and on both rear rims (only rear ones).

The dealer told me that Mazda knows about, but its an appearance issue only and the factory is not doing anything about it.
BTW the 2007 ones have this strip painted black (mine is 2006 Speed6 located in New Orleans).

Should I worry about it?

Anybody esle has the same problem?

If I paint it, what kind of paint should I use?
thanks for your info.

Yupp Happens A Lot. Pull Your Wheels Off... Or Hammer Them Off Then Take A Small Amount Of Anti-seize Grease Between The Wheel And Rotor Where They Touch.

HIGH TEMP PAINTS, AND NO NOT REALLY AN ISSUE OTHER THAN IT LOOKS FUNKY.

I think its normal. Sand the trust off. Spray some brake cleaner and apply some dupli-color caliper paint. Top it off with some clear engine enamel. I havent used the enamel but will be re-painting my calipers tomarrow and using it to see how well it works. Be sure to tape off where the pad makes contact.

I just did my brake rotors. I usually use Krylon Rust Enamel because you can paint over rust. I have used this paint for a while on brakes and never had any issues with the temp.

thanks guys.
i guess i have to become a grease monkey this week and fix it up.

nice of mazda not to take care of this issue.

really its something that will happen with any car that has an alloy wheel and steal rotors. i think it happens with ours really bad because the rear rotors aren't vented at all, so it gets really hot witch will speed up the seizing between the two.
