Rush in a Car Crash! (MSP Totaled)

the red volcano interior for one thing, that alone makes my insides hurt. plus I have heard that the 6 speed is sloppy and numb. one of my roommates has a spec-v and its nice but from what i have researched the normal SER is better all around car and i think insurance isnt as high and i think it doesnt need premium like the spec-v. its just hard to find a 5-speed.

i have an 04 spec v im trying to sell and it is very nice imo. black on black, the 6 speed isn't really necessary for a 175 hp car, but hey it's nice. also they recommend premium but iirc so does the mp3 so you really don't need it.

Well I suppose if it's eventually going to be a 'beater' car, a Civic is exactly what you should get. Fits all the requirements and after not too long, it's a piece of junk that just needs a body kit, fart cannon, etc. lol

Anyhow, Civic does sound like the best option. Though I dispise them purely for rice-ification of them.

And usually they're not dumping a huge load of salt like that one was either, .. from the sounds of it she was already passing it when it started dumping salt. Of course she probably wouldn't have passed it if it was already dumping that huge amount of salt, but again, it doesn't sound like it was dumping anything until she had started to pass it, then it was already to the point in a split second that she couldn't see anything because it was dumping so much so quickly.

Sorry to hear about your incident but I must comment... If there is a snow plow working a highway/freeway it is not a good idea to try to pass it. Just settle in behind it (at a reasonable distance) and be patient. It's out there for a reason.

Ok sorry for this but I know when racing if you ever loose sight of the road i.e. somebody blows a motor in front of you and windshield is covered in oil (dont laugh it happened to me) or somebody goes off track and vision is impaired by dust you should know whats ahead of you before the incident and just brake in a straight line instead of just continuing and hoping to get thru it unless you have a spotter who tells you just drive thru it which is very rare except for Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder LOL. If this simple practice was executed this would have never happened. And also I have never seen a thread like this over a wrecked MSP. LOL I guess Girls do Rule or moderators either way its funny.

I don't think it's just because "another MSP was totaled." I think it's more the fact that Rush has always been the coolest chick around the forums and had (as I agree with the MANY comments) probably the cleanest, nicest looking MSP out there.

I mean, if some schmo came on here and was like "I got an MSP, mines the s***. No one can beat mine. I have a CAI and short shifter. I eat GTO's for lunch. OH SNAP, I WRECKED my MSP!" Then obviously he's a douchebag and was probably racing someone and lost control. We'd still be a little upset that there is an MSP gone and we'd be glad he was ok but it's kind of that idea of "serves you right."

Just my .02 cents

find a old mx6/probe or 626 turbo. those things can be found really cheap, and are 15 flats totally stock. $400 in mod's, and your doing 13's on the stock turbo.

Hey just some reference to the insurance stuff.

after i got my loan for my msp a friend of mine asked me if i had gap insurance on the loan because she thought i paid to much for the msp. so i got worried about it and called my insurance company (USAA) and asked about gap insurance. i was told by the guy and had it verified by his supervisor that i did not need the gap insurance because i have good equity on the loan. they told me if the car were to become a total loss in a wreck that at the time (May - July 2008) my car was worth $12,500. totally stock. and has 61,000 miles.

I would get the insurance company to re evaluate the value of the car with modifications.

Except if you're in snow and it literally pulls you out of a straight line.

I'm not sure I'd say anything about mods... sadly, every modded MSP brings less on resale which is why so many sellers put the car back to stock to sell.
But RUSH, IF YOU"RE STILL READING ALONG, DO THIS:
1. Go to the AutoTrader Online and/or other sale sites and download the ad for every car over 11K.
2. Go to Edmunds.com and Kelley Blue Book, fill in the blanks, and download their valuations (retail market value) for your car.
3. Make glossy prints of all of those awesome pics you took of your car (I especially like those that look like you were out in the country.(spin)
4. Print every comment from this thread that says yours was the finest example of an MSP out there.
5. Put all of this into a nice envelope and give it to your agent and tell him you want to challenge the company's valuation of your car.

Seriously, you have nothing to lose but a little of your time. Even if the damage is so great that the car is still totalled, I guarantee you you will get a larger check!

My insurance company originally put my car at 10,400.00. I fought them on the valuation, explaining that the cars they used as comparables simply didn't compare, and they ended up raising the value to $12,200.00 The difference was enough to cover the repairs and get the car restored.

= driving too fast for road conditions

How's about being more sensitive to the fact that a respected mod with an awesome MSP just lost her car instead of beating her up about it?

BTW, you don't have to be driving very fast to lose control of your vehicle in the snow. And usually braking can make it worse; even though its a natural reaction.

Agreed.
I once skidded and hit the opposite curb @ 15mph on fresh snow once. Nothing I tried worked to pull me out of it. And I had plenty of time to try different avoidance maneuvers too. (Slow motion.)
Were there things she might have done differently? Probably, but they don't call them accidents for nothing.

oh no...can't believe I only just saw this thread... certainly one of my favorite 323 sedan's of all time...irrespective of model, year etc.

If its any consolation, its probably a good thing they totalled it (even if it doesn't seem like it) - front impact damage repairs are rarely without their problems. I recently had a front quarter panel (low speed) impact, which was repaired under insurance by the best in the business at chassis alignment over here, and it still isn't quite right (even though they have shown me data from their machine to say its back within manufacturers tolerances)....and I do sometimes wish they just spared me the let down every time I hit a corner in anger, and just wrote the thing off. May be a hard thing to swallow right now - but to get it repaired only to have it be half the car it was would be just as bad imho....

Having said that its a terrible thing to lose something you've poured your heart and soul into. and to see it like that must be truly heart breaking.

Buy the wreck - its still worth something - more than the wrecked value at least....that gives you options - part out and make a quick buck on it, or keep it until the time comes where you can afford to swap out the good bits into another car. With the benefit of experience, you'll be able to build an even better one.

I honestly can't believe that a destroyed fuse box was the killer though - surely one could be sourced from a rear-end wreck at the local salvage yard for cheap.... its hardly a complicated thing to replace. Insurance companies can be such a pita when it comes to these things and often their decisions can seem totally arbitrary and illogical.

Anyway.... hope you get back on the road soon - and hope you do decide to eventually rebuild you msp....this place just wont be the same without it ;)

edit: oh, and as for the thousands it would cost for a workshop to swap your powertrain over - i'm sure there are enough back yard mechanics on this site, near you, who would love nothing more than to pull a massive 48hr beer and pizza fueled change over for you.... think outside the box...it needn't cost you a fortune to bring your dad's protege up to scratch...if you buy the wreck, and enlist the help of the community, you've got all the raw materials you'll ever need....hell if i wasn't a few thousand dollars worth of plane flight away i'd defiantly put my hand up to help....

Sorry about my absence over the last couple days, guys. Between playing catch-up in classes, getting back to work and dealing with a bazillion phone calls -- it kinda ties up one's time.

I'm not here to debate over who did what wrong in the accident. It doesn't matter anymore. What's done is done, and sitting here arguing over it won't change that fact. So I would appreciate it if people with any comments pertaining to such would restrain from discussing them in this thread. This entire situation is difficult enough for me as it is without seeing people argue over something that, quite literally, DOES NOT MATTER ANYMORE. Let people say that I was driving like an idiot. I know what happened, and to be perfectly blunt, that is all I care about.

I'm still waiting to hear back from my insurance company with figures, though they did call me on Friday to apologize again for it taking so long. But I want everyone to be aware -- there is no guarantee that I'll be buying my MSP back as salvage. It ALL comes down to the numbers. As I've said numerous times, I have to think through this with my head and not my heart.

Thanks very much for the suggestions on what the buy, though. Based on what everyone's said, it sounds like the most intelligent solution would be to pick up some kind of Civic -- because yes, I'd want it to be a beater car. Not a project car. A beater. But even THAT decision is riding on what the insurance finally tells me.

I'll continue to keep everyone posted with how things progress .. once they actually DO progress.

Kindly have a little respect for me in MY thread and leave the issue ALONE.

Any further posts made that don't pertain to what this thread is actually about NOW will be deleted. It's a shame that I have to play referee even in THIS thread .. but that's life, I guess.

And not to defend him...but you are also making this out to be much more than it is....you both need to just watch your tongues honestly.

You did make a mistake....You are now paying for it.
It sucks...I am sorry..your car was beatiful.
HE doesnt need to tell you...nor do you need to blow it out of proportion either.

This is just someone from the outside looking in's perspective.

Remember...It was just a Car....It is replaceable.
