Running *very* Rich with Spool kit

Mazda Protege ES 2.0 With Spool Turbo Kit
My friend and I installed the spool kit on my 2001 ES 2.0L . The only real problem is that it is running rich as hell. I belive that the problem is the fact that I have one of my o2 sensors laying next to my intake. I didn't have anywhere to put it after installing my high flow (wink) cat. Would installing the 02 sensor somewhere along the exhaust make any difference without the cat? Or does anyone have any other suggestions to help lean it out? Gas is a b**** right now!

Thanks all,

I believe it is the rear o2 sensor. I just read my cel codes one said that bank 1 was lean(I don't see how), and another said something like 02 sensor no circuit activity or something like that.

Could I have mixed up the o2 sensors when installing? Would that make a difference?

To let you know how rich it is: When coming to a stop I have to keep feathering the gas pedal until the car reaches idle. If I don't then it will stall on me. I can smell the gas, my exhaust pops and the rear of my car is covered with soot... I
Need (help)!!!

Thanks,
~Jeff

Here's some more info.
I remember putting in the pressure gauge signal modifier thing that came with the kit. I thought it was supposed to only work when at WOT, but could this be the problem? Also, when we installed it, we had a purple wire that we could not figure out what it went to.

The Voltage clamp (the "pressure thingy") does not work at WOT. It works at partial throttle to keep the ECU from running to lean. Are you running too lean at WOT or anything below? I also have the Spool Kit.

I'm running rich at all throttle positions. At full boost I can actually see the gas gauge dropping. At idle I can smell the gas comming from the car.

BTW: do you happen to know what that purple wire is for?

Ok, I guess then that wire isn't the cause of the car running rich.
I was thinking that wire might be there for an a/f gauge.

are u sure u have no fuel leak?? i mean, if at wot, and u can see the gas gauge going down.. it could be because of when u go at wot, its pumping up the fuel pressure, and more pressure more prone to work..

the 2nd o2 sensor should not effect you running rich..
check your wiring, what fmu is it?? 12:1 , 10:1

I think the fmu is 12:1. It's whatever came with the kit. I'm pretty sure that I don't have a fuel leak, but it is possible. I'll look around. I know the first 02 sensor is for the mixture and the second is for the emissions. Is it possible that I have them installed backwards? Other posts have said that they are the same and it doesn't matter what position they are in. But I think it would matter since they have somewhat different purposes. Unless all the computer is looking for is a difference in the measurments, but if that was the case, why does it through a CEL with the one of 02 sensor not installed.

PS: I just finished installing my A/F gauge(I know, not very accurate with the narrow bands, but it's better than nothing). I'm going to go drive around and I'll let you know the results.

Thanks

the o2 sensors plugs are keyed so u cant mix them up, as long as u got the o2 sensor with the shorter wires in first, u should be good. , make sure the 1st one is pluged in right and the fm o2 clamp is wired correctly and not miswired, you should only have used 4 of the wires in the clamp, i know red and black for ground and power, and white and blue for the signal wires near the ecu.. should be the pink/bluestrip wire..
you might have to tune the 02 clamp.. talk to KoolDino, he knows how to tune them..

Ok..Just went and drove around a little to test the gauge. While crusing around my neighborhood at 30mph, the gauge read stoich and was steady. As soon as I got on the open road and went to WOT, the check engine light went on and the gauge started dancing from lean to rich. When I got home I plugged in my cel code reader and watched the 02 voltage at idle. THe voltage would drop to .075v then instatly jumpt to .886v, then back down to .075.

As I recall, we had some uncertainty with the wires when we were hooking up the clamp. We hooked the pink/blue wire up to the blue wire which ran to the pressure switch. We hooked the white and 1 yellow wire to the voltage clamp, and finally connected the second yellow wire to the pink/blue at the ecu. Does that sound right?

Make sure you got the right ECU wire. THere is a blue with a pink stripe and a pink with a blue stripe. Make sure you've got the right one. Also, adjust the clamp properly. Set it to engage at around 5 inches of vac.

I'm using the pink/blue wire on the ecu. I'm sure about that. How do I go about adjusting the clamp?
