im just bored at work and thinking...

right so from what ive been reading from the forum, the MSP runs rich as hell, correct?
perhaps it is running so rich because mazdaspeed wanted to release a boost controller or some other mods that would just be "bolt-on"...maybe...do you guys get what im saying? i could just be writing bulls*** here, and probably am, but it sure beats making copies.

thanks.

you are running rich because that is their saftey net. dodge and the mini cooper out of the box run 8 -10 :1!!
yeah 8:1:D

Good theroy but ruined in the truth of the matter. MazdaSpeed would never dare to be daring and actually release something like that. ;)

And it is a safety net in some sense to *try* and keep the engine running.

What IS the deal with MAZDASPEED? Isn't MAZDA supposed to release performance parts through their dealers under the MAZDASPEED name? All I've seen are hats and bra's. Those are only performance parts if you own a honda.

Dex, stop tryin to fool yourself ;) The MSP ECU is a pile of donkey s*** on rye bread with a slab of moldy cheese. It functions just the same as the MP3 (minus extra timing) or P5 ecu. It only has a few extra built in features but nothing special. Pull it out, throw it at mazda HQ's door and demand reprogramming.

Make them fix it!! I'm behind ya!

dude what the hell else is it susposed to do for you, bake u a cake!

Callaway had these cars at 200hp so maybe they just lowered the boost thats why there is all the extra fuel. yes some for saftey but not all of it.

Where did you hear that Callaway had the car at 200hp? That's news to me. Also, since everyone seems to think the car runs so rich, does anyone know the flow rate on our injectors? Any idea of the duty cycle? I'm trying to find out how much power our stock ECU / fuel system will allow.

Maybe we're running so rich that it's causing our stalling/choking issues at WOT.

For me, the car runs great at 3/4 or less throttle (actually wants to go) but when I have it WOT, it surges like a biatch in heat

Actually, if you're running on stock boost the car runs really nicely at less than 3/4 as stated. But once the boost goes up the fueling in those areas is not enough and it will still run poorly until it goes into open loop.

When the car is in open loop it runs as it should, at one point last week my car was going into open loop at 2000rpm if it sensed manifold pressure over 0. It ran SO good, but now its back to s*** again.

The stumbling is caused by the ecu not retaining fuel between 2000-4000rpm, it stays in closed loop even at 11psi which causes stumbling from a rich/lean condition as it sweeps back and forth.

Thanks Turboge,

That makes SO much sense! :D WTF Mazda!

as for me, I think down the line I could go and get this fuel mapping issue looked at (and dyno tuned...BUT there is probably no solution at this point)

Actually, the Voltage clamp from Split-Second and Flying Protege might work. It will sense pressure at 0 vac and go into open loop I believe. This is what was occuring last week with my car, and it felt WAY better. It may use a bit more fuel but you want that fuel there under boost. I've been trying to talk to Keith about it and see if we can get one out here for me to test.

That sounds like a winner, but what is the possibility of Mazda coming out with a recall or bug fix for our ECU's? I've seen it happen before where they would just reflash the ECU at the dealership and everything was fixed. Doesn't hurt to dream huh?

wrx's are the same way..run a lil rich from the factory...as do evo's...i think its just a safety...to keep combustion chamber temps down..heat is your enemy....some guy ran a new evo on a dyno and leaned it out perfectly..gained 30whp in the process too.

true we dynoed a mini and gained about the same to the flywheel.
