Running Rich-bad?

After the turbo install we were running a bit lean and so we richened it up quite a bit. I am able to spool @ 6 psi at 4-5K without any pinging or knock-which is the good thing. I do, however, feel tha tI'm running pretty rich. My EGT guage isn't hooked up yet, I can just smell it.

Is there any disadvantage (other than poor gas mileage/emissions) to running rich?

The problem with running too rich is that if it runs rich all the time you'll have raw fuel going past the rings destroying your ring seal. Then it gets into the oil and contaminates it. This causes the oil to break down and not have much film strength leading to premature bearing wear in the bottom end (rods and mains). It's the same thing that happens to older cars with carberators when the float level gets too high and they start running too rich. It takes a while to trash bearings (10-20K miles after the too rich condition starts) but messes up your rings and causes blow by much faster.

You may want to report all this type of info to Corky. Remeber we are kind of Beta tester in this so he needs are input and he can explain any regularities to you and how to fix them or if they are needed for the time.
