Man I'm I pissed off. I got stuck behind a 10 wheeler last night and the unavoidable happened : a stone the size of a golf ball flew right into my front lower grill. The    thing just destroyed it, plus it damaged the front end. Nothing I could do.

So rule No.1 is : Stay at least 1000 feet behind 10 wheeler trucks.

good advice.....but you know as well as I do...that if you are in traffic...and you leave too big a gap...it will quickly be filled by someone else...but ya know what? THAT WORKS TOO!! put a BUFFER car between you and ANY big truck.....let them run interfereance for you.... :{D

So rule No. 1a is : Use buffers. It even works when cops are on radar-end-of-the-month-quotas craze...:p

If there is that much traffic, you probably won't be going fast enough to worry about rocks flying up at high velocity =).

not true...as anyone that lives IN or NEAR a major city can tell you.....if you absolutely do NOT like NASCAR....you better stay off the highways of HOUSTON....even at rush hour....I learned to drive here...and I honestly beleive its WONDERFUL training for anyone that is or ever has considered driving in NASCAR....unless you get into one of the many construction zones right now....its not uncommon for the traffic to be nearly bumper to bumper....at least no more than two car lengths between most cars...and to be going 60 to 70 MPH.....its nearly insane. My wife absolutely refuses to go through town at certain times of day...she will either rearrange her schedule to avoid it....OR if I am going with her...well I drive anyway...and it dosn't bug me.

and on top of all that....you don't really have to be going very fast for a rock that has just fallen off of a dump truck to slow down enough to smack your car and do some serious damage....
