rubbery & notchy shifter feel

hey guys..
i test drove the MP5 today, and i found that the car is overall a good value. i test drove it in 5 speed and found that he shifter feel is very rubbery like. Is this how it is suppose to be? The linkage between the gears isn't very accurate IMO. i wasn't sure if i was getting into the gear i wanted. Anyways, do most of you feel the same as i do? Or is it just me?
Btw, i am planning on getting a MAZDASPEED protege, and the closest test car to that was a Mp5. I hope that the MAZDASPEED protege shift feels better, with it's shorten throws.
thanks

Hi LE,

Congrats on the new buy.
I think that our good friends at katrboy kustoms (www.kartboy.com or the link at the top of the page) may sell shifter bushings which should improve that rubbery feeling. In fact, they post in this forum, so if you search for "bushings" (search button is at top right), you will find much information on them.

Yeah, the shifter in the P5 was a little soft. However, for $25 you can pick up a set of Kartboy Urethane shifter bushings that clean it up. I also have a B&M short throw shifter that further enhances the feel. Between these two mods, the shifter is now quite a bit more satisfying in its feel.
