RSX vs Mazda 3 (not Street racing)

hey,

I'm just wondering how the Mazda 3 stacks up against a regular RSX (Not type-s).

I notice the HP are both rated at 160, the mazda 3 has more torque but comes 500rpm later. I can't seem to find any info on the net concerning the gridpad/accel times of a normal RSX.

edit: even cornering speeds will be nice

honestly, I don't know, if I did, I wouldn't have asked.
And I dun think MZ3 is lux. Its an econ car with some grunt =) and some nice features.
The RSX is a small sports car which lacks power.

I know the RSX probably have better gear ratios tuned for better accel but
I don't know the difference between the two when it comes to the dyno.
Since the RSX is only 2.0L, MZ3 is 2.3L, I'd assume MZ3 has a better low end (but do correct me if im incorrect).

Cornering wise, I'd think 05 RSX has the edge since it got an update on the front suspension geometry.

anyone got #s?

I dont have any #'s but I can tell you that you need to work the RSX in the upper RPM range to get any decent power. Honda engines have always lacked torque. I drove a type s and thought it was a nice car, just not for me. Also the fact that the RSX is a coupe and is smaller, it drives more like a sports car. However, the RSX does have a pretty soft suspension.

my friend has an auto 5-spd 05 rsx.
Suspension is soft but does handle well in the corner, guess the re-done front suspension works.
But it does lack power.

please leave the type-s out of the debate cause
1 - types way more pricey than mz3gt
2 - 210hp.

but i do hope the mz3 is faster, I dun want her owning me... lol.
(I have to get auto, since guardian is paying part of it).

i would think b/c the tq is available 500 rpm quicker, and that damn v-tech that the rsx would beat a mz3 in an all out 0-60 a 1/4 mile would be close, (not sure on weight) but if more then that i bet the mz3 would start to pull on it... all depends on the driver and abillity to launch a fwd car

Yeah I'm not sure. Because the regular RSX has a 5 speed and less power than the Type-S, it will probably drive like a totally different car. I wonder how the gear ratios compare to the MZ 3.

i think the mazda 3 would win, My friends mazda 3 beat a civic si hb which has 160hp itec and the mazda 3 beat it. Considering the rsx base has 160hp also.

yeah, i still cant seem to find stats on a regular rsx.
god damn it.
I'm starting to lean towards mazda 3.
the 05 type-s does 0-60mph in 6.7secs (road and track).
so add about 1.3-1.5 seconds, thats around 8 seconds. same as mz3 sport gt.

sedan should win (lighter), sport, i dunno

i read numbers in the 7.2 0-60 on different magazines for the sedan s trim

The RSX will beat it due to the broader powerband. Tourque will only help you in the start, but HP will get the car past you faster.

You cannot compare the K-series engines to any other Honda engine, it does have midrange tourque and it will get up in the rpms (8200 redline stock) quicker than any Mazda3.

As far as the type s, youll need a mazdaspeed pro with some good mods to be able to keep up with it. Even some 350's, and WRX's have a hard time keeping up and then passing an RSX in a race.

Remember people, its not the tourque that gets you to the finish faster, its the HP. The tourque will get you better 0-60 times.

kinda what i said.... and he is asking about the non type S remember... the reg rsx....

I think we need to find out what the weight differences and gear ratios are before making any assumptions. Not to mention tires, engine redline, torque and hp curves, etc. Its hard to compare hp and torque when there are other factors to how fast a car is.

yeah wieght and curves would be nice... redline i believe was stated at 7200 for the mz3 and 8200 for the rsx (are we sure thats non type s??)

These cars are very similar. On the street I would go with the Mazda, it makes max torque at a higher RPM. On a track I would say probably the RSX.

What happened to "not street racing?"

If strong acceleration is your goal, I'm thinking neither of these. Rather, something like a Sentra SE-R or WRX/9-2X (the latter with turbo is just over 20 with rebates and employee pricing).

I've added pages for individual models to my site. To see the most common price comparisons for the Mazda3, go to www.truedelta.com/models/mazda3.php .

if it were me, i'd take a 3 5-door over a base RSX. i'd take the just retired civic Si hatch over the base RSX.

but i'd take the Type-S over either. i miss mine badly. :(

I drive a 3s sedan and my wife drives a base RSX. Both are 5 speeds, both are 2004's and both are good cars. The RSX is clearly more sporty and feels faster when I drive it. My wife loves the RSx and never asks me to take the Mazda. When I have the choice, I drive the RSX on short drives and the 3 on long ones.
