RP4-MZ11 Voice Activation

Hi, i'm unable to program my RP4-MZ11 for the voice activation, answer call and end call buttons. This is particularly a pain since the voice button would be very handy with my new Carplay update. I saw a similar thread here (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123840999-PAC-Steering-Wheel-problem) but i haven't had any luck. When you are programming it, the LED will turn off when doing a short pres, and eventually flash for a long press, but the LED doesn't turn off at all for those bottom three buttons; the volume and track buttons i've programmed fine.

Has anyone hit the same issue? I have a 2015 CX-5 with a Pioneer 5000NEX head unit.

Thanks

I had the same situation with those three buttons. I did not have connected the blue and green wires together(they have those round plug in connectors at the ends). I believe they are labels for 2nd SWC or something like that.
Than, I had to reset the SWC and they started working.

Something you may consider is re-calibrating the entire SWC module, as it seems like it doesn't recognize the buttons at all. In addition to tibimakai's suggestion, I'll post here what I've posted in another thread ( http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123837355-OEM-Backup-Cam-with-Aftermarket-Stereo/page5 ) regarding a similar issue:

Setting up the SWC is a pain in the ass. Half the time the SWC module doesn't work. What I've found is that sometimes you need to unplug the interface connector, wait a few minutes, and re-plug it in just to reset it. And when you replug it in, wiggle it around and push it in HARD to make sure all the leads connect within the connector. That said, if you push buttons and the LED doesn't flicker AT ALL, you have to "re-calibrate" your SWC module, which means to tell the module what buttons are available on your steering wheel so it knows what it can program to. You have to hold down the program button for 7 seconds, and once the LED flickers, you basically map your buttons according to page 6:

http://www.pac-audio.com/PACProductD...ons_081612.pdf
(the instruction manual linked above was asthetically different than what I received with my unit, but for the most part the instructions are exactly the same between them)

Here's how I recalibrated:
1. Hold program button down for 7 seconds.
2. Press Vol +
3. Press Vol -
4. Press >>
5. Press <<
6. Press program button (skip as there is no dedicated button for Mode on wheel)
7. Press program button (skip, no button for Mute)
8. Press Voice button
9. Press hang up button
10. Press receive/call button
11. Wait 7 seconds and then once LED blinks, all buttons should be active for programming. You can test by pressing each and the LED should flicker.

Once this is complete, press each button to make sure the LED flickers, which means the SWC module knows each button exists and can be programmed. Then, when mapping commands using the Pioneer column of the Programming Chart, make sure you go through the entire sequence and press buttons for every command you want mapped and press the programming button for those you want to skip. Keep in mind that once you start the programming process, the SWC basically forgets ALL the buttons' commands, so you'll have to map each one. If you miss one or stop early, buttons can be "forgotten" if not programmed, in which case you'll have to re-calibrate all over again.

Hope that makes sense and good luck!

Thanks, I've reset and re-programmed multiple times. The issue is that the volume and track buttons flash the LED, but the phone and voice activation buttons don't.

tibimakai, i think that is the issue, I noticed this in the manual:

Blue wire in vehicle harness - In the Mazda CX-5, 2013+ CX-9 & 2013 Mazda 3 with factory navigation, the blue wire in the 24 pin vehicle
harness needs to be connected to the green/white wire in the 16-pin RP harness. This is necessary for the Bluetooth SWC to function with
the aftermarket radio.

Best Buy Geek Squad did a good enough job, but you really have to stay on top of them for details like this.

I made the same mistake, when I installed mine.
The voice button, will work instantly after reset, but the phone buttons will "work" only when it is an active call. I have tried reprogramming them and I have spent a lot of time with these.
I did not realize that, they work only when there is an active call.
When do you reset the SWC, look at the LED and make sure, that when you press those three buttons, the LED will react to them. Then, you are good to go.
For long button press settings, hold the buttons until you will see the LED turned on.

Just to be clear, this is NOT an issue with the PAC unit, it's just how your Kenwood (or whichever) head unit reacts to these button signals. Other brands may react differently.

Hello, I followed all the steps but the LED does not flash phone with buttons (answer, hang up and voice). All other functions are OK. I restarted the rp4-mz11 and nothing.
Whats i do wrong? I have a pioneer avh-x8650bt with CarPlay.
Thanks and Regards from chile

It sounds like the 2nd SWC wire is not connected or not connected correctly. Those 3 buttons send a signal on a different wire than the other buttons. For those to work follow the RP4 directions for units with navigation (even if you don't have navigation).

the second green /white cable was connected to the blue connector harness of the vehicle and no flash led rp4-mz11. connecting and disconnecting and nothing rp4 unit. Its totally crazy configure these buttons.
Any suggestions?

What are you using for connecting the wires (crimp connectors, soldered, etc.)? With some of the connector types it can be troublesome sometimes to get a good solid connection.

Have you tried disconnecting the pac module for a minute and then plug it back in? I found that (in my case at least) that disconnecting the module or the battery to reset it worked better than using the button to reset it. If that doesn't help maybe you have a bad unit or some other issue with it so you might consider contacting PAC for assistance.

The unit works fine. I restored/unplug the rp4-mz11 many times. Maybe I need "soldered" the green/White with the blue wire.

I had the same problem with mine when I put a 4000-nex in. I resolved it by programming a long press on voice activation. A short press won't work, since you have to long press the voice activation button anyway to bring it up normally. Also from factory the answer and end call buttons didn't work, after doing a re-program though they did
