Since somehow the whole rotor topic has gone up the kazooi figured i would ask a few questions.

I read about the rotors being coated and it makes sense that it will protect the rotors but how is that the coating lasts past the first applications? wont the coating wear off on the face of the rotor?

Im hoping to get in the group buy with TurfBurn for the KVR pads, what kind of improvements i could see when paired up with good pads? Heat disspation? 60-0 times anyone?

how about lifespan? will they last more? and i hope i get much less brake dust than stock.

i know these are a few questions but any opinion, comments would be appreciated. thanks!

Some rotors apply a zinc coating to help prevent rust on most of the rotor. However that coating wears off obviously where the pads contact the surface, and some rust will happen there; but it also gets wiped immediately next application of the brakes. But at least the rest of the rotor keeps looking nice.

Life of the rotor depends on how aggresive the pad is, and how much you use the brakes compared to other driver and pad combinations. If you need long life you'll have to stay with stock pads (and stock limits of performance). Cryo-treated rotors are said to last longer but cost a lot more.

If you are really looking for significantly less brake dust and longer rotor life, look at a full-ceramic pad. The high performance pads (which I have on my car...and like) will produce a little more brake dust and more rotor wear (depending on the agressiveness of the pad), but will give better braking feel and a better bite. The ceramics will be as quiet as possible, be very smooth, produce less brake dust, and will be the most gentle on rotors.

will the ceramic pad be affected by really cold weather?
im getting EBC greenstuff, and KVR drilled rotors i just hope thiey last me a reasonable amount. i do drive "spirited" 95% of the time.

Ceramic pads will do good in cold weather. If you drive spirited most of the time I would stick to the greenstuff....the pads themselves will probably last just as long as the ceramics and you'll get a better bite with the greenstuff.
