Roof rack vs. fuel economy?

I searched and I found one reference that taking off the roof rack does improve the fuel economy.

Did someone actually write it down as to how much the improvement might be?

I am contemplating an Ebay CAI, which should also help, but was just wondering today about the roof rack.

The factory roof rack is fairly aerodynamic, so I can't imagine it would make much of a difference. I had mine on, took it off still got 30-31 mpg on the highway.

I dont think it would make much of a difference really. I took off the cross bars and the vertical bars (so all of it) and the car felt a little lighter when driving and had less wind noise on the highway. That was worth it for me.

i had a deal going where i bought a gore-tex parka and pants for this canandian and he was gonna hook me up with the filler strips (AND he was gonna pay for the clothes and shipping), but it fell through cause i cant get the size he wanted

you sure he is not talking about the plastic filler pieces, i beleive those run about $30 a side... so that should be clarified.
