Roof Rack - Damaged Rail

Hey ya'll, I wound up buying a set of roof rails off eBay. Cracked open the boxes today and found that the left hand rail, was snapped at the rear left hand attachment point. It looks like there are two screws connecting this piece to the rest of the rail. I'm thinking maybe I can purchase this piece separate instead of packing all this crap back together and requesting a refund.

Does anyone have the roof rail parts diagram ? IS this possible? Should I just ask for my money back?

I just happened to picked up the whole set from Med Center Mazda as they were running a special. The instructions / Diagram really does not show the break down of the parts but from looking at the rails I would agree that you could remove the two screws and slide out the end piece.
I would contact the seller as they should have insured the package or at least refund you the price it will cost to replace the end piece.
If you do get a full refund from the Ebay seller, take a look at www.mazdaparts.com they sold me the rails and cross bars for 391.76 shipped to the west coast.
Just got them today after ordering them last week.
Hopefully you will get it resolved.

Yeah, I managed to pick up this set on ebay for about $140. I called a dealership that said they don't list that individual part number. The seller has offered a full refund or 30% off if I decide to keep them. I'd hate to send it all back, other than being a huge pain in the ass, I'd be losing a great deal. Ugh.

Did the seller not use insurance on the shipping?
Would think that would almost be standard.
Another option is maybe talk about doing a cross shipment of the side bar that was damaged with a new one.
Might be that they just sell the side bars as it would be easier to do then the parts that make up a side bar.
On a side note if you bought the cross bars too then put the sliders on before you actually put the side bars on the car.
It will make it easier than when they are on the car, I wish I would have thought of that before I put them on the car.
One set of the sliders on each side was a little hard to get on but I finally did and be careful of the access panel for these as they can be damaged very easily.
I have to fix or replace one of mine, funny thing is the instructions I got showed the part number for this little panel, wonder why :)
Hopefully it will work out for you.

Yeah, I called up a local dealership that said they only sell a cover replacement kit, and do not sell the rails separately. So, I either have to take a discount on my order and keep it, or get refunded my money (which I'm not opposed to, I'd just miss out on a great deal)

Not sure if there is any difference between a P5 and Protege but found this e-tailer for roof rack systems for a 2003 Protege.

Might check with local dealer if you want OEM or www.mazdaparts.org (They are a mazda Dealer in GA)
Also might post the question in the Protege part of the Forum as some one there may have a better answer.

140 is a great price but with the issues of getting a single rail or replacement parts do not know if the 30% is worth it if you cannot use them.
I picked mine up at www.mazdaparts.org for 391.76 for both Roof Rails and Cross bars. There was no charge for shipping to Everett, WA.
The price breakdown is 275.26 for the Rails and 116.50 for the cross bars.
Local dealer quoted me over 500 dollars for the set.
Do not know if it is in your budget and how long the special was going but to me it was good deal for both the rails and the bars.
