Rishie's FITMENT RECIPE

Ok the wheels I want to get are 17x7 with a 42 offset, the tires I want to get are 205/45/17, I went onto the tire manufactures website to check the section width. It says that it is 8.1 on a 7. So I am assuming that means the width is 8.1 inches on a 7 inch rim. Would that be a rubbing issue? If so would I have to roll all 4 of the fenders or just a few of them? I am at stock height currently.

Too close to call.

If it rubs, you'll only need to roll the rear fenders. Our cars don't have problems clearing the front fenders unless you run 225 or wider tires.

I was thinking of putting my stock Speed6 18" rims with 225/40 tires on my P5. So, looks like it not going to work... right? Thanks for the advice...

maybe, what tire is it? If it something that runs a little wide, it'll probably rub.

Really? That's surprising--but not impossible!

No rubbing against the rear fender? Have you done the speedbump test with a full load of occupants?

There's no rubbing and since it's not as offset, it's still has enough clearance to the inside of the fender. I haven't tried the speed bump test, though... Will try it this weekend.

what tire is it? Aren't all 225 width tires all the same width? Isn't that the point of having the 225 mm measurement?

Sorry if these questions sound stupid. Still new to this whole fitment deal.

Not even close ;)

They're kinda like shoe sizes. Just cuz you're a 10 in Nike, doesn't mean you're a 10 in New Balance or Adidas. You might be a 9.5 in one, or a 10.5 or 11 in another. So in conclusion: what tire is it? lol

A better metric for determining whether a specific tire will rub is the section width, which is usually provided in spec sheets and available on tire manufacturers' websites.

Advice on a particular set of wheels

Hi all,

I have been looking at all the posts on wheel fitment. It seems like for 17"x7" with 215/40/R17 tires will best fit with 45 or higher offset without rubbing.

Just wanna see what you guys think of these wheels here and see if they will rub. -> http://www.edgeracing.com/2002/Mazda/Protege_5/wheel/4909/
The wheel is XXR 925 when you click on 17 wheels
The offset on these wheels are 42... Tires will probably be Toyo Proxes Fz4 or Proxes 4 - 215/40/R17.. (A guy told me that Fz4 is discontinued.. so higher chance to go with Proxes 4)

I am currently running stock suspension on my P5... but gonna put in max 1" drop in the near future..

What do you guys think? Will it rub??? it will be great to know if there are anyone have this setup with lowered P5...

Thanks in advance for your help~

depending on how fat that tire is, it'll probably rub occasionally w/ passengers in the rear / over big bumps. I've got more or less the same set up, and it's very infrequent, but I'm usually alone in the car and not hauling a lot of cargo ;)

Hi aMaff,

How much did you lower your P5??
And did you have that setup with stock height before lowering?

I did have the setup at stock height and it still rubbed on big bumps. Right now I'm on Mazdaspeed protege springs, so not *that* low

Does anyone know if these rims would fit my 03' P5? Or will a 17x7 wheel size with an offset lower than +45 not work? Please let me know ASAP for I would like to order these soon.

Model: ADR S-07R

Size: 17x7

Bolt Pattern: 5x100/5x114.3

Offset: +40

Thanks, Dan

I have some opinions already, but thought I'd post it up here as well as there's more people here.

Will have MSP struts and springs soon (about .75inch drop). With that in mind, I just picked up a set of 17" Mazda 3 wheels, what is the best tire size I should use? How well will a 205/40/17 work?
