review : mazdaspeed anyone seen this ?

Sigh...magazine racing. :p

The dyno comparison was funny. That SRT-4 stomped everything.

It's especially funny when you know that Mazda delivered the car for testing with the tires shaved to 2/32nds.

and where did you hear this from? Other magazines have tested other Speeds, and have gotten comparable handling numbers ( And much better 1/4 times) then these guys. There is more then one test car they have. Even if it was true, who's to say the others weren't as well.

Any test I see on the Mazdaspeed, I consider it usless unless they state two things. Was the car Flashed? My car was a dog pre-flash. My buddies 2003 speed was as well.

Did the car have worn bushings? or new ones, or the new e's?BEcause with bad bushings, my mp3, and speed handled much much worse. Most of these testers wouldn't even know what to look for.

It was reported in SCC and Motor Trend magazines. If you look at SCC's numbers and MTs numbers then look at subsequent C&D numbers they are significantly different.

Anyways, the Cooper S is now the best handling FWD car in America and in a few years no one will really remember the MSP.

Agreed. My MSP's bushings are a mess. The front ones were creaking like crazy but since it's warm, no more creak which means the dealer doesn't hear it. The rear bushings are a year old and clunking but the dealer doesn't hear it so I'm stuck driving around with bad bushings. And I'll tell you, this car with 4 worn pieces of poly/rubber is a totally different animal. It handles like crap right now.

sorry to hear this man.

I'd go to another dealer. No way I'd be putting up with that.

So used tires have more grip than new ones? Also what would make a MSP do almost a 1 g on skidpad?

This car impresses me more and more each day. It is an absolute BEAST on twisty roads. Who else is amazed at their car? The things you can do are sick and to approach the limits is scary..cuz the limits are so very high.
Not quite...
There are several reasons to shave tires for racing. A) Slightly lowered car(center of gravity) and less roll-over on the tires B) More contact area C) Wearing a tire over time(no matter what amount of time) causes the tire to lose some of the oil...which is what makes it sticky. Thats why dry-rotting is bad. Every time you use your tire, some of that oil is gone. Shaving a tire keeps the oil instead of using it over time.

Now, I'm talking about the oil thats in natural rubber. Why? Because the more natural rubber there is in a tire, the better the grip is and the quicker it wears. Natural rubber is what makes a tire stick, synthetic is what makes it last. IE: R-compound tires have a much greater ratio of natural to synthetic than 60,000 mile street tires.

i love the car for what it is especially the handling, but one thing i like to improve on is in the tires, when these bridgestones ware out i want to put on yokahama's i have had great experiences with them in my 95 Z-28, and they are rated a bit higher on the tirerack.com ratings

That's hillarious!! I did the same thing...

The guy who wrote this article makes it seem like it's so easy to put in a FMIC and turbo back exhaust. I don't know about you guys but droppin 3 grand into the car isn't the easiest thing to do! Not to mention, with a setup like that, it's in a completely different class of vehicle.

But yeah... handling rocks! Only problem is... you gotta have the right types of roads otherwise it's pointless! I can find a straight road to jam the gas on anywhere but twisties... not that easy.
I read that article over and over too. It's what really made my mind up about the MSP, and I'm glad I made the right choice. I couldn't turn any more heads or amaze more people in a Ferrari. At least here in the South.

As for your lack of twisties, what a shame. We are surrounded by mountains and some of the best driver's roads you could ever hope for. The MSP does truly shine when you have the opportunity to toss it around for several miles at speed.
