Rev Limiter

Thank you Mazda for putting that rev limiter in, you have saved my engine as of last night.

p.s
I hate and I really mean hate our standard transmissions.

The manual says not to run the engine in the red zone on the tach. I've done this by accident once or twice, does it damage the engine or does the rev limiter assure you wont?

yeah it is not a bad rev limiter.. and really our cars redline is 8 but you dont want to be bouncing off the rev limiter for more then a minute. starts to be bad.. last night I hit it trying to go to forth but the tranny locked me out of it so I hit what i though was the gear mashed the throtle hit the rev limiter and then hit it down again and the ******* tranny threw me into second.. I was like foook!!!!!!! so I decided to stop (the road was empty) get out check the engine check the tranny everything sounds fine and runs fine and then I pulled away and went through the gears with more authority.. basically my clutch is fooked and that has something to do with it.. mazda is replacing it under a recall.
so I am happy but I was worried i blew something up.
I didn't think I did though because the guys are running turbos on this engine and not blowing them up for a bit.
so It was all good to me.
just worried me is all.

Hey Seth, does this Mazda recall you're talking about have anything to do with the clutch chatter problem that so many people are talking about (including myself!)?

Kinda interested in this cuz I really hate feeling like the tranny's about to fall right off early in the morning!

naw you don't have to do a search I will just tell you straight up.
yes and I am glad that I am not the only one that feels like our tranny is going to fly out the side of the car in the morning.

they are giving me a brand new clutch and something else though I don't remember what.
it is a known problem from mazda and if your dealer says we know nothing about it tell them to contact their district rep, because he DOES know about it.

Seth,

I told the previous guy to do a search. IF you bothered to do a search you would know what you are getting replaced....

It's sad to see something like this...

does anyone know the real rev-limiter? i hear different things, and even the dealership doesn't call me back, even when i bug them, to get back to me on this info.....all i know is i've revved past 7000rpm, damn near 8000 once at autocross, and i'm freaked and pissed cause i depend on it to keep me from accidently breaking something....i have a '02 dx, with no tach (had to install an aftermarket one), it would be messed up if they put rev-limiters on the lx and es models only, and even worse if the lx and es got differently rev limits. in short, does anyone know what the hell is going on?

just got word back from the mazda dealership....according to them, my car DOES NOT have a rev-limiter...that would explain why i hit 8000 rpm at autocross...

i think either the msd dis-2 or the mallory hyfire works with electronic ignition systems with two coil packs and doesn't the fs-de have two coil packs over the valve cover?
