The manual mentions to replace both the transmission oils drain plug washer and the oil level washer when changing the tranny fluid.

How important is this and where can I get the washers?

I can't find the spec in the manual.

I believe if you are changing your tranny fluid on a 1-2 year old car, you can pretty much use your old washer, unless it is in really bad shape. I changed my tranny fluid a couple months ago, and the washer is like brand new. No rust, no stain, not even scratched much, nor any warping on the shape. I would assume the manual suggesting that because usually people don't change the fluid until roughly 60k-80k miles, which the washers would be pretty beat up by then.

I could be wrong though.

As long as there are no leaks then it sounds good to me.
Thanks

Oil gaskets?? is it just me or do most 2002 proteges not have oil gaskets, all i have is a drain plug and washer i think, but no gasket.

As for tranny oil, should I wait till a certain mileage, or can I do it after 3000 miles? Someon suggested I wait till at least 6000 before I go MT-90.

NGUY, the GASKET he is speaking of IS the washer you mentioned....for its an aluminum GASKET. the soft material of the GASKET form fits to the pan and the drain plug to make up for any irregularitaries...thus stopping leaks...

1stMP3inNH....as for how important it is to change the gaskets? how often do you change the one on your OIL PAN when you change your oil? its there for the same prupose....they are like about a dime each at the dealer.....I know the last time I baught a half dozen oil filters at the dealer he GAVE me a bag with 6 of the gaskets/washers in it.

Thanks Sir nuke, makes more sense now, I was expecting a rubber gasket.

So could someone give me some insight on the tranny oil swap? and when is a good idea?
