replacing rx8 rear strut

I'm looking for some advice. I want to replace the rear struts on my 2005 mazda rx8 and can't find a mechanic manual and or pictures on or about a replacement procedure. I would like to find some pictures or diagrams on the whole procedure before I start any work of course though. I picked up "monroe" struts and would like to know if anyone out there knows a better brand? Thanks for any time you can put into these answers.

Go here for a copy of the service manual:

I had to download the file, it was taking too long to just open it.

As for the shocks, depends upon what you are using the car for. The Monroes should be adequate for daily use. If you are planning on some performance driving (autocross etc) then you will want to buy something with more ability to control wheel motion. Those will also be more expensive.

Rear shock replacement isn't too bad. The monroe's will be decent for daily driving, but probably won't hold up to anything spirited. I've never heard comments about them on an 8. I'd look into some Bilstein HD's, or stock replacements if you want to keep the car's good handling for relatively cheap. If you have the budget, Koni adjustables are by far the favorite. Tokico D-specs are a good performance shock for the money as well.
