Replacing Brake Question

I apologize if this has already been addressed elsewhere in the forum, but I'm trying to find out when/how many miles is recommended to swap out brake pads. Also, how many miles for the rotors. Thank you very much in advance !

its not so much "miles" before replacement, as it is "when the pads get low".

for example: if i drive 30,000 miles per year, but its all highway, my brake pads might last quite some time compared to someone who drives 10,000 miles per year, but its all country roads with a ton of stop and go.

i will typically check my brake pads in march and october/november when i change out the snow tires. then plan for replacements when i notice them getting low.

If they're original then yes they most likely are coming due to be replaced. If you don't have the ability to check them then at the next oil change make sure they get looked at. You might be due for both front and rear. 60k to 70k out of the original pad is pretty normal on this platform with conservative driving.

Anyone ? Please

You can do a visual yourself without taking the wheel off, and get a sense of the pad life remaining. taking a pic with your phone can help you see also.

If you are in a dry climate, and do not do much city driving, and are an easy driver... 90-110k miles I have seen here.
If you are in a wet or and salty climate, do a lot of city driving, and use aggressive braking... 30-50k miles I have seen here.

It is always a good idea to inspect and replace before you start hearing noises. (shady)

Brake fluid has a limited lifespan also, and is one of the more forgotten parts of car maintenance. Changing fluid every 2-3 years is recommended by nearly all manufacturers.(whistle)

-Depends on how you drive, errr, brake
-Depends on the climate you drive in, which affects the lub on the slider pins that direclty affect the floating calipers
-OE pads do not have wear indictors!! At least not on the car I had.
-You need to check the inner pad, not outter which may look rosie but the piston is that applies the pressure is on the inner pad.

My previous Mz5 (had for ~10k before brake job), the inner pad was down to metal while the outter pad looked good @ 46K. Rears were much better.

Bottom line, you are likely due (or overdue) for maintenance.

maybe take a pic of your rotors and the thickness of your pads and post it here?

do you feel vibration as well?

Please refer to my IMPORTANT post in this forum about the rear pads.

Lesson learned.
