Replaced stock exhaust resonator with a 12" Vibrant one

Forgot to share this with fellow members of this forum :D Last week I replaced the stock exhaust resonator with a 12" vibrant resonator in hopes to get a bit more sound from the stock exhaust. I could have gotten a straight pipe in its place but from past experience the sound gets very raspy and sort of like bees in a tin can sound. The only option I haven't tried was to replace it with a smaller resonator.

Our stock resonator is pretty fat and the chamber is about 10'ish inches long. The vibrant one is about 9.5" long and much thinner. End result is it did make the stock exhaust sound deeper especially in lower rpm and sounds really good when accelerating. It's a bit louder than stock and has a sporty tone to it but when cruising on the freeway you don't hear it and there's no droning on the freeway either. I only wanted to increase the sound of the stock exhaust without getting aftermarket exhaust system and this seems to give me exactly what I wanted. Not too bad for $100.

Also, there's no power difference, as expected. However, my current tank of gas I seem to be getting better mpg. On my usual routes I would get between 26-28 mpg according to the car's computer but it is now saying 30-31 mpg driving the same route. Also short trips (1'ish miles or so) use to say anywhere between 18-24 mpg but now it says between 24-30 mpg, even 31. I don't know if it improved mpg or not or if it was just good gas this time. I'm not sure, I'm still on the same tank of gas so I'll see how it does on my next fill up.

Smaller resonator welded on, the resonator has same size openings on both ends and the shop expanded each end and slip it over the stock pipes so it won't create any turbulence.

BTW now that corksport has a new exhaust out now for the 2014 hatches that could be another option if you want nicer sound for your car :D
