Correct.
This just adds MP3 CD support over the stock model.
I found it a worthy addition since I could never get an order for the AUX input mod.
Installation is a breeze as it's the same dimensions as the original unit.

im pretty sure the later model ms6s came with the mp3 capabilities. it was just the first batch that didnt

There are only 2 models, 06-07. I don't get what you are talking about! Mine's a 06 GT and plays MP3 CD's. Unless the Sport models don't(uhm)

I had an 06 GT and it was definitely a required upgrade for me.

There's no faceplate with the MP3 changer. It uses the stock faceplate.
The only thing extra that it came with was the "MP3" sticker that you can put over CD emblem to show you have MP3 support.

The MP3 player was an option. I am sure some dealers probably installed them before selling the car (make a lot of money on accessories). If you want to be sure look at your window sticker and your owner's manual. I am a bit far from my owner's manual right now but I recall it talks about the optional part when referring to this player.
