removing engine head. Any advice or tips?

Thanks for the information. I think I'll want to do the pulleys, remove vtcs/porting, and possibly the rear engine mount while I'm at it. However I think I should go with the light weight crank pulley instead of a underdrive one. It just seems to me that there will still going to be more risk involve with the UDP.

Btw, how do I remove the 2 bolts (the ones that are tugged underneath) for the intake manifold? Since I don't know how to do this, I am planning to remove the intake off of the cylinder head after removing the head from the block, but I'm just curious.

THese are the used tools I bought so far:

1. Snap-on 3/8" drive ratchet F830
2. MAC 1/2" dr ratchet VR15
3. MAC 1/2" dr Breaker bar U24F
4. Snap on 3/8" sockets 12pc 8-19mm
5. Cornwell 1/2" impact socket 15pc 10-27mm
6. Wright tool 3/8" dr. standard 8pc.
7. Very old Snap-on 1/2" dr. ratchet.

Man, tools are expensive....

and I still need some deep well sockets and wrenches.
I think I went over board, maybe I should have just go with craftsman mechanic's set like you guys suggested. That's much cheaper. Well... I guess I can always sell these later and get most of my money back.

BTW, I didn't see any Craftsman Pro ratchets or sockets at the local Sears.

Get short/med/long socket extensions.

and 1/2 and 3/8 universal (swivel adapters).

Remove the lower half of the intake (with it still in the car, just let it drop down) and then the lower intake bolts at the head are very easy to get. ;)
