removing diffusor

i just did that.. like wow, what a diffrence.. even when it's hot outside(eek2) (rockon)

no bogging and a bit more power, seems to have better throttle response and less lag(boom04)

yup,

came upon the MAF thread done a while back.. i was reading about the MAf relocation.. so i thought i would give it a try..

it REALLY DOES make a diffrence.. it's not neck breaking or antying but you do feel it..the car pulls alot better and alot less lag.. it breaks traction on a relatively hot day here..it wasn't able to do this before..

mines been gone for 2 years but thats cause my maf got water in it and the new (used) one didnt have it. i didnt notice to much diff but if anything itll prolly affect idle.

Mine has been off for three years. At one point I put it back on to see, and I took it back off b/c it feels a lot better without

did you reset the ecu after?

I'm still not sure what you are talking about. Is it a piece of plastic inside the MAF sensor?

exactly, its like a grid. its on the inlet of the maf and it smooths out turbulence of the incoming air to give the maf better readings.

im kind of confused here. is the diffuser the plastic grid thing that goes around the whole inlet before the actual sensor?

so relocate the maf AND remove the diffusor ???

i have the maf relocated and the car ran much much better than before but sometimes i still get the odd hesitation, mostly on a hot day (uhm)

no i didnt relocate yet.. im checking that out if i will or not.
i think blowing through the maf and removing the diffuser is a little too much.

ya know on a hot day, when you ease of the gas and take it back and the car has a slight bog or hesitation? well i try to make it do it..and it did, but like 20% of what it was...

and on that same hot day, 30 degrees celsius ( pretty ho for here up north) on old asphalt took off from a stop and floored it and lost traction.. again, the car never did that before.. only in cooler temperatures

another thing, to show you how much restriction this thing has,

put your mouth about 6 inches from the palm of your hand and blow... now put the grid between your mouth and your hand and blow again.

this thing really doesn't help performance.. i know it mght be needed to get the air more linear so you wont get a bad reading from the maf.. but remeber 2 things.. a MAf is a flow meter.. air, like any other gases traveling in a pipe, flows faster in the center.. and ironically thats where the sensor is positioned..

so it cant be that bad.. sure at NOT stock boost it might still be a good idea to have tuned.. but im running stock boost and i have already bigger spies on hot days than before since i removed this..

it's not 20 whp mod, but it really seems to enhanced drivability and response time..

plus once u change the intake filter or even intake everything changes anyhow so i just never got a new one.
