Remote Start

anyone know of a place to get a compustar for cheap?

Ebay, but buyer beware, the brains of the compustar might not work or you may not get wires or something.

Be careful. I got very lucky with mine.

Where can you get one besides Ebay? Just a place that sells them for normal retail price.
What you should do is call around at the places that install alarms and electronic stores to see who has them. Not many places carry compustar because it is expensive so no demand.

I just checked prices, looks like a NOT bad price for the Clifford. I still like the Compustar. Can't beat the 1/4 mile range and the fob tells you when something is happening to your car, when in range ofcourse. They have another model thats suppose to have a 1 mile range, but i have heard mixed reports on that.
The RSX 3.5 also has a LCD. It's a bad pic but here's a shot of the stock vs the new one. I have yet to have any range problems, even while at the back of the HEB grocery store here. Definately a nice investment.

Not many places carry Compustar because it's a new "un-proven" brand. Not talkin s*** about them cause the alarms kick ass but not many audio shops carry new products since their distributors only get certain brands. Anyway, the Compustar is cheaper, if not the same price, as compared to other two-way alarms. It's all about personal preference.

The owners manual I believe states 30 seconds.....and it's silly anyway. Our turbos are cooled plus it's only after long up hill under boost or constant long held boost. I just sit in the car for a bit.

Compustar is the one that does manuals. They are also one of the best car starters out there.
*ANY* remote start system will work with a manual car.. It's done when installing and has nothing to do with the electronics of the alarm.

I found this information by searching for compustar

"I could not get a straight answer from anyone as to the range differences for the 2W-SS-AS model versus the 2W-FM-AS model. Some people were saying that the FM one actually has better range than the SS one in Canada, but Compustar's website says the SS model has a 1.25 mile range and the FM one has a .25 mile range.

I finally decided to call Compustar directly and get the real answer. Apparently they sell a different FM model in Canada than they do in the states. In the states they have to cap the power on the FM model because of interference problems or something. In Canada they don't have to.

So the official word direct from Compustar is that the SS one has a max range of 1.25 miles in Canada, and the FM one has a max range of 1 mile in Canada. For the extra .25 of a mile it's probably not worth the price difference, unless you really want the vibrating pager instead of just the beeping (I think that's the only other advantage of the SS over the FM)."

Thanks

That explains all the stupid answers I was getting.

I found a dealer here that will install the FM unit and all modules required for my MSP for $450.00 + taxes. Sounds like a hell of a deal.

It will be done soon. I just need to sell my 92 piece of s*** car first....

So the alarm/key fob vibrates when your alarm is activated? So if the car is 1 mile away you still get notified?

Are you going to run a mile and hope your car is still sitting there when you get there 8 minutes later?

Personally I don't see a point, but it's your money. Oh yeah, (flame)(flame)(flame2)away fellas.

You have a point but keep in mind if somebody wants to steal your car nothing can stop them. Its better to know earlier and react faster then to walk to where your car was hours later and have a heart attack when you don't see it.

Most of the time, I'm near my car but inside a building or house where I won't hear the alarm. With a two-way, I can check status of my car at any time. Pretty comforting, especially with some local issues going on with neighborhood kids.

To each his own.
