Remote Start

I finally got a remote start module and installed it on my MP3. thanks, guys, for all the tips on the neutral trigger wire. It works perfectly. and if anybody is still wondering, the car will absolutely NOT start if it is in gear and yes, it will start from the remote w/o having to push in the clutch - that is of course assuming that the module is propersly installed. :D

the remote start module is an Omega rs-6. i think they normally run about $80 (USD). however, i got lucky and found this one on ebay brand new in the box for $25 + shipping.

neutral trigger wire

I know I talked about this before when I posted questions about instaling my remote start, but where exactly is the wire? and is there a place to splice into it inside the car? Id like a pic of the wire in its location if its not too much trouble for anyone. right now i have mine setup in manual mode so that i have to take the key out before opening the door. Its kind of annoying when my friends dont remember and open the door right as i take the key out.

the only plus side to my setup now, is i wired my radio and sub to the ignition wire so that when the car is remote started, it turns the radio on, and when i take the key out to enable remote starting before arming the car the radio and sub are on. people look at me funny when i walk away from my car with the engine and radio on, and then turn it all off with a remote. and then when they are getting into their car, and suddenly a car with nobody in it turns on and the radio bumping.

Yeah can someone get me the wire color and location so I can add it to the sticky?

Thanks

the neutral trigger wire is pink/green. if you look between the battery and the transmission, you will see a gold colored bracket with a bundle of wires (2, i think) covered by a black protective sleeve. if you slide that sleeve back you should see a pink and green wire coming from the transmission. my suggestion is not to cut the wire because if you only pull the sleeve up, you may not have enough room to splice it back together. instead, try using a t-connector or something similar that allows you to splice wires together without having to cut them. the neutral trigger wire runs from the transmission to a black connection that fits into that gold bracket. if you squeeze the part that attaches it to the gold bracket you should be able to slide it right out of the bracket and have a little more room to work with. i attached the wire from the remote start module on the other side of this connection - farther away from the transmission. hope this helps for now. if i have time later and can figure out how to load a picture to the board, i will. if not, email me your address and i can maybe email you the picture of what i'm trying to describe here.

I've got an Aritc Start...which is the Canadian verson of Compustar.... and i love my remote start....best thing i've ever got for my car beside bushings and springs!!

What range can you get with yours?

what do you mean by what range? i can start it from inside my apartment and my workplace, which is all that matters to me, if that's what you mean

here are two pics of the neutral trigger wire. hope this helps.

I've always heard rumours, that installing a remote start on a standard was a bad idea. As if it would damage the car or clutch????

I could never figure out how this would hurt it, but a lot of people say NOT to do it in a manual tranny?

Any thoughts?

I have a remote start in my hyandia xl winter beater...it is standard and never a issue...

You can't leave the car in gear obviously so it makes it easy to hook up to a tow truck from the back and tow it away.....on the MP3 we have we always leave it in gear < reverse >, parking brake and use a club steering wheel lock with the wheel turned so the wheels are at a angle....makes it tough to two away without dollies....and dollies takes time something a theif does not have...

It won't hurt anything when installed correctly, its just a huge liability so shops will aviod it at all costs.

How difficult would you say the install was? Were there a massive amount of wires or no?

i can see why it is a bad idea, but w/ the module i have and the handy neutral trigger switch and wire that are on the MP3, it's fool proof. the one (Omega rs-6) i have will not allow the car to start if it is in gear. yes, i tried it. no, it didn't start. the install wasn't too bad, but it is time consuming. of course, i'd never done it before. if you don't have a good understanding of how things work, i don't recommend you do it yourself. oh yeah, don't forget to make it bypass the clutch so you don't have to depress it to start the car. i forgot, but was quickly reminded. it only took a few minutes to fix that glitch.

im a little confused. I have a compustar alarm and its all installed correctly. but the remote start wont work. If you press the remote start button it it truns on the igntion, but wont fire up. If you get in the car and press the remote start button AND HOLD THE CLUTCH in, it WILL start. the car is in nuetral. does anybody have an idea what is wrong on it.

I think the cars clutch has a switch that must be seen by the car before the car will be allowed to start. It may be + or -, I don't know for sure. Use a DMM to see what is triggered at the switch when the clutch is pressed in. Either ground or 12 volts. The remote starter should have a clutch bypass wire to hook up to the that wire at the clutch to fool the car.

perhaps I'm the only moron, but I would jus tlike to clear up for anyone trying to find this, the wire is NOT located inside of that big wrapped bunch that you see in the picture, below it, there is a small bracket with 2 wires coming out of it, that is where the pink/green wire we're looking for is at. Asfor disconnecting the bracket, I'm having issues with that, I might jsut go for a "splice" connector, but I'd much rather see if I can disconnect it all, and get a wire hooked up right. Don't want any corrosion getting in there.
