Remote Start + TT?

:
11 MS3 Sport
Before you say it, I did try searching. Maybe I didn't type better phrase words but I couldn't find much. And i've been searching on Directed Electronic's website too.

I have a Clifford 50.5x Two-Way remote start and security alarm. I was going to remove it off my TBSS and hopefully install it on my MS3 but I keep hearing horror stories about how remote starts are a tad dangerous to install and risky. My installers who originally installed everything on my TBSS, won't install it on the MS3 i'm about to get.

Funny thing is, DEI advertises "turbo timer" as a built-in option. So..if you can install a remote start on a manual (Well..no one is willing to), then why advertise this? I suppose I can always call DEI on monday to find out.

How much manipulation/warranty threat is involved when installing one?

Ouch...

So even with my remote start system now, my warranty is voided on my truck? But of course, with the Magnuson Moss act, that would mean if I have ignition problems, my remote start could be held accountable for it and then void my warranty.

its not voided unless they prove it caused a problem

A dealership doesn't need to 'prove' anything to void your warranty. All they need is probable cause. Do a search, dealerships have voided kids warranties when the ignition system merely appeared to have been tampered with or modified at some time prior.

I think what Rodney was trying to say is, even though people have said their warranties were deemed voided, that was at a judgement call of a service manager. The law states they cannot do so unless that said aftermarket piece has caused the issue and they need proof to show that. Right guys?

Technically correct; however, we're talking about real-world circumstances. Like I said, do a search... it happens all the time. And you have little-to-no recourse. Anyone can make up an excuse about how modification A. yielded problem Z., no matter how circuitous the explanation.

Good question. If you have to tap the ignition system in any way shape or form, the answer is generally yes. If that's what a TT requires (I've never installed one myself), then that's your answer.

most dealeres around here dont even know what a turbo timer is. you could ask if they would keep your warranty if they install the remote start...but that would get pricey

my dealer told me I should get one and that it wouldnt vooid my warranty... Discretion is a wonderful/awful thing I guess
