i was thinking more about the whole "synthetic oil starting leaks on high mileage engines." in a way its a good thing. if you put in synthetic and a leak starts you can fix it before it gets really bad.

I'm looking for the Mazda3 oil change write up that one guy did in this forum but I can't find it anymore.
Another Q? I'm having the hardest time getting the Amsoil 5W-20 for my 3. What other synth oil do you guys recommend for hot-year-around weather in PR.

Finally after a week waiting for Amsoil (dealer) to stock the 5W-20, I decided to go to a local speed shop. They hooked me up with Royal Purple 5W-20 for $5.00 a quart. Pretty good for full synth oil. So I'll be changing the oil this weekend. Thanks for all you pros that replied me with important info. Does this synthetic oil I got last for 7,500miles? Well anyway it is cheaper $60(oil change in Mazda)>$40(synthetic oil and filter me changing it) In my book that is a saving LOL.

Royal Purple is definitely good stuff. Technically, you could probably go 10k on it.
Best bet would be to go 7,500 this time and then send your oil out for analysis. They can tell you how much longer or shorter your oil change intervals should be.

You may want to rethink that AMSoil thought, I have had four snowmobiles burn down engines this last season (3 out of the 4 were stock) All of which has been a direct cause from AMSOIL. There is a large group that is taking them to court as we speak because of this. I am not trying to bash them, but fully warn you of what has happened. I personally use mobil 1 full syn for my engine in my Syclone and Red Line for the trans in both the 3 and my SY, Royal purple is also good I use it in my wifes polaris scrambler 400 and my sled.
