There you go guys, argue if you want but thats the exact damn thing.

We need to get a PDF version of the FSM.

You're all wrong.

3.3 Quarts.

Gmac

g35m-r is the 5 speed manual you need to look at the 6 speed. i just pulled this up in the owners manual it says 2.6 qt roughly.

It will take the full 3 quarts if you empty all of the stock fluid...
I usually slightly (I said slighty) over fill mine...front end sit slightly higher than rear.

The difference between the 5 spd and 6 spd capacity is the volume the extra gear in the 6 spd takes up... (lol2)

i have undeniable proof....i put it in my car. it took just under 3 quarts. i said 2.7 as an estimate. so 2.6 sounds just fine and dandy. Gmac: you go ahead and try to put 3.3 chief. youll waste a half a quart to the pavement. have fun though sunshine.

Right or wrong, very unnecessary commentary.

I said 2.6 quarts out of the book on like page 2 of this thread.. I still like how it was being debated.. haha... come to think of it, why am I even replying... I gave the answer along with many others in here a while ago.. its technically

2.6 QUARTS

Bare Bear? in mind overfill causes frothing, think beer for a moment........ ...... . Ok, what? You would like to be as close to exact as possible with transmission fluid level. Mckraut thank you for your effort. I was just wondering about directions for the fluid change when I clicked on the thread. If you can get instructions for the six speed would be awesome as I am ready to upgrade fluid. I really need the shop manual. anybody ? pm please

ericrapp- am in the same situation. My oil arrived today, I did the engine oil change. Looked for the tranny fluid drain bolt... which one is it?! Which one is the filler?

Any help?

EDIT* Found it! http://**********************/index.php?topic=92872.0

EDIT again* Evidently, we are not supposed to link to other Mazda forums. (argh)
I am not there yet. Still deciding on fluid. pm details if you do not mind. Which motor oil?

I used Red Line 5w30. You cannot go wrong with this motor oil. Another oil I would use is Amsoil. I can get that locally for a pretty good price, so once I go through my 12qts of Red Line, Amsoil will be next.

I used Castrol Syntec in my Subaru with no complaints.

When it really comes down to it, you cannot go wrong with Mobil 1 (minus the fuel dillution, from what Ive read), Valvoline, Red Line, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Castrol, etc. Keep it synthetic, and you will be safe, no matter what name brand motor oil you are using. I have never been a fan of Penzoil, heard some stuff about it a while back, and its been tainted ever since, to me.

I really dont even see much sense in spending as much as I did on the Red Line. Will I ever see the long, long term affects of a cheaper, but still name brand synthetic motor oil? Heavens no.

Even so, I cant help but use some of the finest fluids I can find, Im very particular when it comes to my vehicles. My dad came down to the shop and asks, "why are you changing you tranny fluid when youve only had it for a week? I never change my fluids as much as you do." I told him Im not the kind of guy who will drive 8k miles between oil changes like him. Im particular and I didnt like what the dealer put in there at the factory. The dealer had actually put 5w20 in there before I bought it, and it was tearing me up inside.

I just drained the factory tranny fluid and refilled with MT-90. It wasnt a life changing experience, but it does feel smoother. Not as much of a differnence that some make it seem to be. A lot of it may be that its not below freezing here and we dont usually see extreme lows. Ive only had the car for 1k miles now, so Im not as familiar with the car as some may be.

The name of the oil isnt near as important as the interval in which it is changed.

That all may have been more than you were asking for, but it may help someone in the future.

The fill plug is at the front-left of the engine/tranny...
The drain plug is on the left/driver side of the engine/tranny.

I had mine changed to MT-90 since last Fri. Like everyone said, it feels smoother and easier to change gears. However, I still find it hard to change from 1st to 2nd first thing in the morning. Overall, I am very pleased with the results.
