Thats how you determine you are at the proper fill level.

The book says 2.6 quarts

Its in the owners manual section 10-8 I think it was. Manual Transmission with Turbo Charger = 2.6 US Quarts. The NON Turbo regular Mazda3 is 3.03 US quarts. Soooooooo

Mazdaspeed3 = 2.6 Quarts
Regular Mazda3 is 3.03 US quarts
Both use 75w-90 gear oil.

I just bought Redline MT-90 to put in my tranny.
AND.. 6 quarts of Amsoil 5w-30 full synthetic to keep things slick and safe in my engine.

the Mazdaspeed3 (turbo) engine takes 6 quarts of 5w-30 with an oil filter change if your wondering.

You can, just til it starts to seep out of the hole that is the general way you can gauge it without actually measuring the amount going into the tranny.

Consensus seems to be that the friction modifier is worse for the synchros then it is good for the LSD.

Synthetics doesn't need friction modifiers; Amsoil and Red Line... Don't know about others.

What other trans fluids have you tried. By the by. I will try a new lube but I lean towards the purple synchromesh. I will look deeper but mt is on the list. thanks

I've never tried Royal Purple...but have tried everything else under the sun...and Red Line I found for tranny fluid was the most smoothest... Maybe Royal might be better...but I'll stick with my Red Line.

I buy my MT-90 from Titan Motorsports; though they carry everything else except 5W-30.

I buy my Red Line motor oil from Summit Racing or Jegs; it get it in like 2 days with standard shipping.

Titan Motorsports sells it the cheapest from anyone locally or online...

Just in case, Street Unit also carries Red Line...though they are a little more expensive...gas vs. mileage...???
