Red paint spots all over my Pearl White Mazda 5

I had my mazda 5 in for an oil change over the winter and I think while it was in the shop it was hit with some "paint" - little red dots were all over the driver side door panel and window - I didn't find this out until a few months later when the weather got warmer and decided to hand wash the car. Anyways tried going into canadian tire, walmart garage looking for some help and none could recommend a removable solvent - they all said to go back to the oil change garage - which I didn't want to as it was over 4 months after the fact. So last night I finally decided to take a crack at it with some home solvents, tried with one small spot on the car using vim, vinegar with warm water no avail, finally thought about using nail polish remover and said what the heck, tried it and it came off, so i was able to remove all the red little spots with the nail polish remover - of course using very little of it as possible, then rinsed the car down. Anyways I checked this morning and the door paint looked fine - crossing my fingers it didnt' damage the paint job or polish?.

Any thoughts.....?.....what's done is done but there might be some repercussions?

WOW! I don't think I would have used nail polish remover because that very well may have thined out your clear coat as well. Regardless what is done is done and I would definitely follow it with a wax/paint cleaner then put a nice coat of wax on it. In the future, my recommendation is to stop by one of your local well established body shops. They have many "safe" products to remove overspray etc.

Best of luck...

Why would you use that? Could have used a claybar or something from a pep boys or something. Nail polish remover is too strong imo. You may have done more damage than good.

I would wash the mazda5 by hand , then use a clay bar, and wash again then use a good polish ,then a sealant or a good wax. (wash with dawn to strip off old wax) if you don't want to do that then call for a professional detailer to do it for you. You got to much in your mazda5 to let it go without a protected finish on the paint. Maybe if it happens next time you can remove the trash on your finish easily. I detail my mazda5 every 2-3 months and all the bugs, tar, and other junk comes off with just a wash. Good luck and for more information go to www.autopia.org and read all you can and ask questions on protecting your finish. (drinks)

Clay, Clay, Clay!!!!!! My neighbor ended up with shelac (sp?) all over his wife's solara and the clay took it right off. For the love of all that is holy, do not use nail polish remover!!!!

Well, glad you at least got it off. As others said, just make sure you get wax on there pronto.

I'm curious to know how the hell you got hit with over spray when in for a simple oil change? They change oil in the body shop?! Weird.

You know... it could be transmission fluid.

A lot of these place do transmission fluid flushes using a pressurized system.

yeah what they said. Clay could have done the trick. But now that its done you should really do what zoomzoommazda5 said and detail it. Hand wash, clay, then wax to prevent things from sticking to your paint and to give you a new car shine :)
Good to hear that nothing happened to your paint after putting nail polish remover on it
