Recommend Replacement Tires???

I've got about 13,000 miles on the stock Bridgestones and the edge of the tires are gone. They were actually worn out at about 10,000 miles so it time for some new tires already. I love the grip of the the stock tires but I've only had the car 8 months and I can't afford to replace tires that often. I don't do track days but I do tend to get a little aggressive in the corners from time to time on my daily commute. I've been checking Tirerack and reading reviews on the various tires but I want advice from people that drive the same car. What tires do you recommend that will give me close to the same performance as the OEM's but more treadlife? My local dealer quote me $555 for a set of Toyo Proxes FZ4 in 225/40/18. These any good?

Thanks for the help.

You don't say what kind of car you have but based on the size I'm gonna guess an MS6. I just put the Falken FK452's on the car and I think they're a great tire - noise is non-existant & they grip great. It's weird but the car feels "lighter" with them on - it's a hard thing to describe. I will mention though that with the size I bought (see sig), I get more tramlining.

I'm sorry, I have an 06 MS6. Black Mica. Thanks for the response. I'll look into the Falken's.

Any other suggestions?

I'm running the Falken RT-615 225/40R18 and they stick GREAT. I've only had them on for a couple thousand miles though so I'm not sure how long they will last.

bigmixx where do you live?? If it snows where you live you should think about an all season tire for winters.

I think the FZ4 is more of a performance all-season tire. If you are not planning to run these tires in the winter I would pick something a little more aggressive.

However, with that said, I had a set of 215/35/18 FZ4s on my Protege5 and they stuck to the road like glue. They weren't great in heavy rain though but that was probably due to the fact I was running tires that were 20mm wider than stock.

Also, you should check craigslist for deals. I just paid $300 for a set of basically brand new Continental Contisport2's. The seller took them off his brand new VW GTI and replaced them with all-seasons. Needless to day I got a killer deal...it was like buying 2 and getting 2 free!

thanks, I appreciate it, so you basically feel all the feedback from the bumps and the grooves in the road eh? Sucks.....

Feeling the bumps in the road is different from tramlining. With tramlining as you come to a stop at a traffic light you can feel the wheel pull you to the center of the road. It is a wierd feeling when roads are uneven but most of the time you only notice it at busy intersections where heavy trucks have caused the tar to cure unevenly.

Oh I see....... I know what you're talking about now, I've experienced that a few times in my last car (truck)

I live in Atlanta, GA. Snow really isn't a factor here.

I live in Atlanta so whatever tires I get they'll be a year-round tire. I'm basically looking for a tire that will give me more mileage than the stockers without losing the performance. I love the Bridgestones but they just wear way too fast. How many miles did you get with the FZ4's on your Protege?

Replacement tires

I just recieved my ordre from the Tire Rack: Kazera KZ -T wheels and Potenxa S-03 tires. The tires were 234 each, but on some kind of clearance. The 225/45/18 s were $134 each.

I love the tires and wheels, makes the MazdaSpeed 6 look much better, IMHO.
