I use mobil 1. I ran royal purple and one point and really didn't notice much of a difference. Mobil 1 feels the same to me and its cheaper than royal purple.

I don't believe you are supposed to "feel a diference", It's more about the product lasting and protecting better under normal and adverse conditions.

If the oil is no better than the other then I'm out a couple bucks, But if the oil prevents my Mains from failing, then I would gladly pay anything, It's like insurance I suppose, It's said to be better, It's been tested better, Let's hope it is.. :)

mb1 10w30 in the winter and 5w30 in the summar

That's ******* Backwards..

You are killing your engine in the winter with thick oil and Burning it with thin oil in the summer months.

i just did my second oil change since i got the car. the first change i did the day after i got it...pretty much did a full service on it....used penzoil 10w30 with a Bosch filter on both changes....was 250 miles early on sundays oil change

So it's bad to use Mobil 1 5w-30 in the summer? Even though I'm not burning oil?

I believe that you are "Asking For Trouble"

Summer stopped in traffic... Summer With the AC on...

MSP21:
the 'w' value in oil is it's cold pour rate, it's the other end of the scale when hot.
so a 5w-20 oil has a viscosity of 5 when 'cold' and will thin to a 20 when warm
a 5w-30 is the same only thins to a 30 viscosity when warm. so the first number, aka the cold pour isnt what you should be concerning youself with in the summer months, think about the range of temps you will be in. summer = hotter (aka look at the right half of the #w- 30 or 20 or whatever)
here's a good site that explains a little more.

yeah i worded it backwards lolz..

I guess I'll be putting 10w-30 on my next oil change then....

The range seperation is not required for the summer. The oil will heat to the same viscocity, however, the 5 is meant for cold starting, and when it's not required it serves no good.

so just stick with 10w30?

werd +1...5 is good for cold starting...Its funny i had this same discusion with my father today before i even started reading this thread (he works for Elf Lubricants...now called Total Fina..they are big on oil and you'll see an Elf or Total sticker in just about any racing event..they sponsor tons of racers).

I woudln't but work is to far away and I dont wanna buy a beater thats going to break down on me.

if i spend 7k on another car my speed would get jealious..
