Recalls

Mazda 6s
Has anyone else had any recall on their 6's?

I've had three in almost a year

Boost sensor
Side door guards
Fuel tank lock ring

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Has the sidw door guards and fuel tank lock ring recalled on my fiance's 6. They replaced the ring and said not to worry about the door sills. Gotta love 1st year models.

Hopefully I can just get the side sills ripped off, I think the car would look sick without them. (rockon)

If I just got my 03 would the dealership have already taken care of these isuess? I agree it would look alot smoother to have no side moldings...

Really? Point me to the links/discussions please. Are they doing any non-standard mods?

The engine has been around (with Mazda) for a good 2 years now, and in other forms (FOrd Duratech) the block has been reliable for ages. Haven't heard of ANY 6i owners complaining about this yet either.

Could it be that the Made-In-Mexico 2.3 in the 6i is more reliable than the Made-in-Japan 2.3 in the 3s?

I'm sure this is a one-off occurrence - but still ... links!

One total person says it happened to his car.

One dealership flunky said its happened on LOTS of other cars. And yet I (nor other Mazda junkies) have NEVER heard of it before. No offense to wongpres, but almost every dealer type, however helpful, and whether a board mod or not, will tell dire stories of DIY maintenance to get people to pad dealership pockets for their highest margin business - service :)

So, until someone shows me proof that all these things did in fact happen to all these different and numerous cars with the MZ 2.3l I-4 - I call BS on that.

I beleve it's possible for it to happen if you take the car to walmart or some place like that for an oil change....I've seen some regular filter botches and I don't wanna know how the will try and throw a fram on w/o adaptor. After reading the How-to on the cartrage I'd say I am compitent for the job but w/o the simple walk thru so many people can screw that up and I beleve it is possible but not in the chitty chitty bag bang thery ;) . Not everyone with a 6 is on the net (took 2 weeks to find site and 4 weeks for activation) so who knows...hell I never noticed the rust till I read about it and the dealers never heard of it till I drove in and pointed it out. *printing out brake reservoir recall* for monday when I get my damage estamate done :(

Fair enough :)

If you want someone to walk you through the 6i filter replacement - just ask!

And when're we gonna start seeing you and your car at some local meets? Hit mazda6tech and mazda6club for more info - but there's BBQ's and install meets happening pretty much every warm weekend now ;)

Missed that - what happened? (doh)
Truck backing up clipped my left front rim taking a nice chunk out of the lip. Car still drives in a straight line "Must Be Build Quality" but when I go in for warrenty work I'll get the drivetrain checked out as well as alignment. It happened on base so govt is covering it ;) Maybe it would help if I should add in it was the same size and body style as the UPS trucks but wasn't brown so you aren't so far in the dark thinking somewhere in between S-10 and Freightliner.

Yeah I'll see when I can when I have "Real" off days...cause my off days are mostly taken up by work...(stooges)

i think i've had 4 recall notices...

brake resevoir
foglight
fuel odor
door sash staining

i have no idea what they did though, if it was just a flash for some and if they actually did something for others...

johnnyB5646 & DieNadel - when you say door sills are you referring to the little edge that says mazda6, the side skirts or the bumper guards on the door?

Da 6 - what's the boost sensor recall? i know there were some other ECU flashes but no one knows what they were updating... also if you still wondered what the car looks like without the door moldings you can take a look at my cardomain page... i ripped off those and my badges when i first got the car... it's all adhesive so it takes some coaxing.. but at least there were no holes to have to patch up :)

Yeah I did the side molding removal and debadging on my neon...Gotta wait till I get a chance to relocate the blowdryer...Plus I wasn't 100% shure what the dealers thought of me modding till I went in for the rust and they basicly were exited to see a modded 6.

for the fuel odor? was that detectable by you personally cause I didn't have a fuel odor other than that one station that didn't have vapor recovery.

not to start misinfo but someone said on mazda6club that parts dept had an updated pcm or sensor that got rid of the CEL on injen systems??? Was that true anyone?

well there is an odor, but i don't think it was my car... i usally drive in an industrial area.. so i get new stinky odors each time... i just received the notice and took my car in just in case, besides i had the door sash one done at the same time...

i don't know anything about the injen CEL thing...

Went in on monday for the rust and fuel recall...I'll try back later for damage estimate again......oh and I'm celebrating my 1st cel today!!! Don't ask what It was cause it cleared itself after I hit VVT on the way home from work?!? Mods are exactly what I have in my sig and webpage.

I blew an engine in a MazdaSpeed turbo (03.5 - supposedly with the updates, and post-ECU flash)
I should have learned my lesson with my 99 Cougar, which was a first year vehicle. This one is even worse, since it is a turbo, and a one year "special build". At any rate, I had to fight with the BBB on my side, and I made it up to Mazda Consumer Compliance (Arbitrations), before they fixed the car. I didn't have it for about 2 1/2 months. My girlfriends father is a Mazda engineer. He did the prototype work on your 6. He is working on the 2005 or 6 model year now. It is going to take the place of the Taurus/Sable by that time, the rumor is. So if you have any questions he may be able answer (especially about the engine/drivetrain side), let me know. Enjoy the 6!
