rebuilding Forge BPV

I recently got the new piston and o-rings for my forge bpv. After replacing all seals, new piston and o-rings, I am trying to figure out if it is leaking. I push on the piston and put my finger over the nipple like the instructions say to do. Is the piston supposed to stay all the way in, or is it acceptable for the piston to come down some? The instructions state the piston should stay in place with my finger over the nipple, but it is not doing that. any help would be appreciated.

New piston and o-rings? What happened to your last piston and rings? As far as the piston dropping I would guess it would drop a hair before it stops.

nothing happened to them. I bought it used and wanted to make sure everything was good. No better way than to replace all seals and such. Plus I had to take it off today and put the stocker on for a dealer visit. So I decided, why not.

make sure you put a light coating of grease on the O rings and around the piston incase you didnt know. I take mine apart about 3 times a year to re-grease everything.

enjoy

After searching this forum and other forums, I figured out it is normal for it to close most of the way since the tension on the spring is too great. as long as it stays open some, then it is ok. So, I guess I did not have to put the new o-rings and seals in. I did grease with the grease in the kit I received. At least I know the BPV is like new now (headbang)

Yep, correct. It's supposed to stay a hair up with a blue spring, then when you take your finger off the nipple, it fully closes. All good.

From Patty at Forge;

Any fully synthetic non lithium based bearing grease will work. We use a Mobile product.
I realize that this may sound stupid, and that is ok. because i am all that. But would you please be a bit more specific? I ask because i am ready for my maintenance on the Forge, i have changed many things and i would like to be sure i am in the best condition i can be in regard to the valve. i am boosting a bit more and in recirc so i think it is important. thank you

No, I think I'm probably the oldest on the thread.
Also, I use the Mobile 1 in my grease gun for the sway bar fittings too, and other things. so you could just get a tube of Mobile 1 and keep it in your grease gun.

yep i got that. i grease the snot right out of my hotchkis bars and then wipe em off.
looks like a good friend in the avatar thing.
I will be greasing tomorrow before the drive. any thing special or secret speed tips on getting the Forge to perform at its's peak. You old guys usually keep this stuff close to the vest but, for a fellow getting old guy... anything you have to share? Any opinion on performance gains by VTA? The CPE tune has some option for that i think. probably Cobb too?
