Has any of the electrical wizards on the forums figured out how to modify the rear wiper to either switch on in continuous mode instead of intermittant, or even better to be able to choose either intermittant or continuous.

This would be a very useful if it could be simply done.

My rear wiper hasn't worked for about a year so I can't remember if mine does or not I'll have a look later and see.

Sounds retarded. So you spray to clean it & it only wipes once? How would it ever get clean without wearing out the switch to get it to wipe more often? Seems useless. Might as well just remove it.

I'm in the US, and mine has only continuous... I actually curse that I have to flick it on, then off when I just want to wipe the morning condensation off. ^_^;

Weird, mine does one pass with one click of the knob, 2nd click is continous & 3rd position is spray/wipe continous. Oh wait, I forgot, I have the 03 MPV wiper stalk that has adjustable intermittnet setting so maybe that's what is different. Maybe y'all need one of those too. No mods, just take the old one out & the MPV one goes right back in the same way. Good stuff.............wasn't aware of it doing anything different with rear wiper tho. Coulda sworn that my oem acted same way with rear wiper just didn't have adjustable intermittent on front wipers. I do have my original if anyone interested in that. If so, I can take pics & be all official by FS standards.

BTW, while your at it, do the Mazda 6 rear wiper swap too...looks much better, even seems to work better. See how-to section.

Just like i12drivemyMP5 said, replace the OEM wiper with one out of a MPV and you will have adjustable intermittnet and continous all in one. I got my awhile back. Here is a picture of the wiper with the Mazda part# and all.

Now I feel foolish I was basing this on a friends MP5, this is how his operates he only has a one sweep intermiitant feature which he constantly curses, he bought the car when it was one year old and has been like this since he got it.

I bought my Subaru legacy GT wagon brand new and it operates the same way one sweep about every ten seconds, so we both assumed his P5 was the same. Hopefully it is not a Canuck thing as I intend to buy an MP5 in the spring, and the rear wiper in the Subaru really pisses me off, I didn't want the same damn thing in the Mazda.

Our Mazda 323 is not continuous either it gives 3 sweeps when first switched on then one sweep about every ten seconds after that. If you switch it off and then on again you get 3 sweeps. If you spray the washer you get 2 sweeps. Friggen weird set up.

i dont think it is a canadian thing, mine has int. cont. and spray.

so your switch only moves in 2 positions?

Mine I am pretty sure is stock.

It has Int, Continuous, and spray w/ continuous wiping for the rear wiper.

Pic for help. Yours look like this?

Okay, we checked out my friends MP5, and after taking off the steering wheel cover it was obvious that the first owner must have jury rigged the switch from something else in there. A trip to the junkyard got a wiper switch from a Mazda Tribute, repaired a couple of botched wires and all is now good.
Added benifit of the Tribute switch, he now has variable speed intermittent on the front wipers.

When I get around to buying an MP5 in the spring this will be the first mod that I do.
