Rear tower bar

It was suggested I have one made. I was wondering if it were possible to use a front tower bar for our cars and use it on the rear?

I'm figuring as long as the length between the rear wheels is the same as the length between the front wheels, a front tower bar should be okay. Any suggestions?

I do believe the length is the same, but the both pattern is a bit different, the front uses 4 bolts while the back only uses three because the seat belt mount is also mounted to the same bolts.

I beleive that you could use any bar that fits and then just drilll the wholes yourself and bolt the bar on. Neuspeed front bars are like that. You have to drill the holes and then use bolts to attach it. So in other wards it is joining the 2 body parts and not the 2 towers. Not sure if I said that right or not but I hope you understand. everyone has their own opinion as to the usefulness of these upgrades but I can tell you that I have seen a full set of stress bars greatly improve the handling of a car with no other suspension modifications. I am sure others will chime in. I had just planned on taking like a cheaper bar from ebay or my local shop and making it work. The best would be a triangulated rear bar like the neuspeed for vws but that would require some custom work.

FuNwaGoN...

I was aiming along the lines of FuNwaGoN, thinking maybe I could get a front tower bar made for our car and have it modified to fit the rear. From the response I'm getting from ya'll, I think it will work and I'll do a little measuring when the weather warms up a bit to be sure.

I haven't seen the AutoExe bar nor the AWR. I checked protege5online.com and found the rear sway bars AWR offer. Someone have another site where I can find more products from either of these company's?

The AWR is the same as the front, it comes in Aluminuim or Carbon Fiber, it just has different mounting brackets. so basicly the pics the same, but here it is anyway.

what did you pay for that?

I see they have them on protege5online.com for $170.
"Adjustable Aluminum front strut tower bar"

Mine is actually on back order, but one of the e-mails I got from AWR said that the Carbon Fiber one shouldn't be too much more than $195. I'm still waiting for mine though. They said they'd call me at the end of last week, I think I'll call tomorrow to see whats up.

oH.. mp52k.. how does that bar affect your handling? and was it as expensive as everything else auto exe makes. -=(

hey

i have a custom made chrome-moly rear strut bar, powder coated in black (i have a black P5). anyway, the handling is great. the rear is much more solid in very fast corners. i got mine made up so that the brackets come out of the plastic area (hole cut in the plastic) so that i can remove the bar easily and loose no cargo area.

i'd certainly recommend getting one.

hey twilight, how bout helping us out with some more details about your bar. who made it? how much? and info would be great. i would like to make one myslef if i can find out where to get the rings for the top of the strut tower to fit our cars. also, any chance you could get another one made to sell to me? i'll pay you alittle if it helps, i just can't afford the 200+ for the auto exe bar at this time. thanks

hey

yeah i can give you any details you like.....problem is, i live in australia, so info on where to go would be useless.

anyway, getting it made up cost me $300aud....that's about $180usd. it was made by a race fabrication shop just near me. the guy has a really good reputation in brisbane (where i live). builds really good drag/race cars.

anyway, it was a really easy install. i've attached a picture of it so you can see the finished version. you'll notice that i had them design it so the braces come out of the plastic so the cross bar can be easily removed when required but taking off the two bolts.

all i can suggest is ring around a few suspension people where you live and find out who they recommend....that's what i did....9 out of 10 people i called recommended this guy i used....so that's who i went to.

Someone already made of for their Pro5. It was when the MP3 had first come out and this site was still relatively new. They posted a photo of it on this site. It was a long time ago though. They had cut small holes in the inside plastic panels and mounted it to the top of the struts. It looked pretty good.

Don't know if it can be removed easily. Looks like it can be. Don't how much better my handling is because I'm still waiting for my order.

When I find out, I'll be sure to let everybody know.
